Eugh......another nail in the coffin of my optimism about some sort of normality coming back.

So utterly disappointing.

I have had actual surgery and CT Scans in the last few months, no problems and nothing to do with Covid. I will not hear a word spoken against any part of the NHS.

They did not stop cancer treatment (as my brother will testify) nor did they stop the other care you mention nor has "half the NHS has done sod all for the last year and a bit".

Your post is disgraceful and you should be ashamed.

Well this is veering off topic. People's experiences are likely to vary as they are likely to with an organisation as large as the NHS. If said experiences are rubbish those feelings are likely to be understandably raw. I've had some superb experiences with them and some downright awful since March 2020. Much the same as I did pre-Covid. I certainly wouldn't say that any of the staff have been doing naff all though.

They've probably done the right thing refunding the tickets so that the finalists can have as many as possible. Do feel it's a bit of a shame that capacity is being reduced to 10,000 when HQ is 82,000 but thems the rules - 25% or 10,000 whichever is lower.

I do feel sorry for your father - I really feel for his family. My wife has had 4 relatives (uncles/aunts) die of cancer over the past 10 or so years and 2 sisters - and I have lost 2 great friends - I have been through the process more times than you'd want.

But you're quite wrong about the NHS having done "sod all". I have three friends undergoing cancer treatment at the moment, all having started their treatment a year ago. I know several nurses who are not working in COVID wards and they are flat out. I do not know where you get your opinions from, but how you present them is crass and asinine.

Shape up, man!  >:(

My cancer treatment continued throughout this whole pandemic saga. One of my good friends is a surgeon in an NHS hospital, and he has not stopped at all over the last year or more, same for his wife, a nurse at a different hospital.

Back on topic from the NHS, how come the football is allowed 25000 at Wembley? Their seems to be less consistency with the spectator numbers than with Premiership refereeing!

Putting my sceptics hat on, I'd suggest it's down to how high profile the relative events are. Much as we'd like to think otherwise, the Prem Final just isn't as big a deal in the national non-sport press & public psyche as the Euros, Wimbledon or Ascot. Because of that, the people making the decisions want to put across the idea that they're opening things up without actually doing too much about it are picking pilot events based on the PR impact that the stories will have. By showing photos in the newspapers/on TV of bigger crowds at Wembley, in Centre Court or on the trackside at the races makes a bigger story than the crowds at Twickenham for the final.

Football, Wimbledon, Ascot etc are more firmly ingrained into the national identity as events than the Premiership final is. When you want to to set a narrative of "Look! We're opening nice things for you!" while actually wanting to keep things locked down relatively tight generally, having crowds at Wembley etc hit home harder than crowds at the Rugby. It's a different matter when it comes to the 6 Nations. That's an event that has sufficient "draw" to the disinterested viewer to rival football, tennis, racing, etc. I reckon if we were playing the 6 Nations now, they'd let *that* be a pilot event.

I'm not explicitly tying the actions directly to votes, but it's not unreasonable to posit that a political decision is being taken on the premise that they get better optics & PR opening up for some events more than others. It's a "better sell" to open up Wembley for the Euros than, say, Theatres in the West End (or Rugby at Twickenham).

If Boris wanted more votes for the Tories he could try emigrating.

(For balance ditto Labour/Starmer and the LibDems/whoever's turn it is to lead them this week).
