Virus Discussions

Well, I don't know about Super Rugby, but New Zealand has handled this virus thing so much better than the UK that I'm sure they'll come out of lock down earlier. So he might yet get to finish off with some rugby there.

It's a lot easier to deal with in a smaller country with a more space of population....

Indeed. Having a low population density and being hundreds if not thousands of miles away from everywhere other than Australia helps too.

And stopping people from entering the country almost immediately there was concern about the virus.

The thing is that basically everybody has got to catch the virus to see if they build an immunity or go the other way. Can we keep everybody in isolation until there is a vaccine?

If we did just wait until we have a vaccine, everyone has taken the vaccine and then we wait again to see if/when the virus mutates a bit...then all start again... then we will have no economy left.

The uk government has been useless over this, why has it got so bad? February half term. Allowing everyone to go to other countries and not checking them when they get back. Then taking too long to lockdown. It’s been a disaster from the start, look at how Germany have dealt with it with a larger population.

As always UK arrogance has led to a lot of deaths.  Also if EU get a vaccine we will not be seeing it! Shambles
Why is an economy seen as more important then peoples live’s. If spirts clubs go under and some companies fail then so be it.
This crises has shown the problems with capitalism and it may be the end of it!

Germany is a federation.  Comparing the UK to Germany (or New Zealand) is pointless as you are not comparing applies with apples.  It would be far easier to control this outbreak is we were a despotic dictatorship run by our own Kim Il-DOK with closed borders.  But we aren't.

Or we had a government that were not so lazy and did not want to make a decision pre-longing the deaths and the tragedy. Still do not get why we could have not controlled this country like Germany?

The way the UK is dealing with the issue appears to be broadly aligned with most of Europe.  For instance, my head office is in Belgium and the approach seems very similar. Yesterday, I was on video conference calls with our offices, warehouses, research facilities, factories and banks in Belgium, Germany and Italy. I spend a substantial amount of time on these calls doing small-talk rather than working due to my extreme laziness. The situations on the ground do not appear to be as different as you would think. The TV news does not always give you the full picture.
Germany is a Federation - therefore easier to decentralise the tackling of the outbreak. The UK is not - therefore, comparing government approaches is pointless.

Lets get back on track about the rugby - otherwise we will need to get this thread consigned to the other place.

That’s fine, my point is that a federation with different states doing different amounts will take longer then centralised decision making.
Also Spain have blocked children leaving the house for the past month so quite different.
Anyway as I have said before I do not think that rugby will take place next season a vaccine is 12 months at the earliest. Without that there will be no crowds at sport.

Centralised decision making is always slower than decentralised decision making in ALL organisations.

I actually think that sport will restart - but will be played behind closed doors for a while.

Germany are also registering deaths differently to others. The distinction of with Coronavirus (here) or from Coronavirus (Germany)

You think the EU won't let any country outside the EU have any of the vaccine? Why not?

Many German hospitals are private. Not NHS style. You think the UK should have the same system, with people needing to pay, or have insurance?

It's very easy to point to other countries and claim they're doing better. The reality is often much more complex. The time to analyse isn't part way through the pandemic, it's afterwards when the true toll is known and can be properly analysed.
