I remember being in Wales (Bridgend) back in around 81, 82 I think. I was visiting a young lady and her family for the weekend. Wales were playing Scotland and lost, England beat one of the others to win the five nations (as it was then). When we went out that evening to a local pub with her friends I was told to sit in the corner and keep quiet. They also wouldn’t let me go to the bar either, which was handy, in case my English accent was heard. They must have genuinely thought I wouldn’t be safe so I had a quiet celebration in the corner.
