"You are hated there," says England scrum-half Danny Care.

"Some of the fans genuinely hate you. They want to make it miserable, make the atmosphere intimidating and hostile."

"I remember old women giving you the middle finger. Everyone gives you stick. There was one lad who ran at the bus, jumped and head-butted the side of the bus"

DC tells that story every time on the pod in the run up to England away at Wales.

But he tells it with affection, in that he thinks it's absolutely right.

So next time Saracens turn up we should all run up and head butt the coach (the bus, not McCall)?

Yes.

Or rather clearly not.

But the headline makes it out like he's saying it's violent, in fact it was him and Jamie Roberts talking about what a massive occasion it is.

I can't stop making jokes, even when I don't try - I'm funny. It's just the way I roll.

I remember being in Wales (Bridgend) back in around 81, 82 I think. I was visiting a young lady and her family for the weekend. Wales were playing Scotland and lost, England beat one of the others to win the five nations (as it was then). When we went out that evening to a local pub with her friends I was told to sit in the corner and keep quiet. They also wouldn’t let me go to the bar either, which was handy, in case my English accent was heard. They must have genuinely thought I wouldn’t be safe so I had a quiet celebration in the corner.

Well, I can remember "God Save the Queen" being booed/drowned out at Murrayfield, and Brian Moore''s tales of coming in from a game dripping with the spit from Scotland fans. I admire passion in a fan, but you can go too far!

Mind you, I’d almost rather that than the silent and rugby ignorant types who end up sitting all around us at Twickenham.

“Why isn’t Goode playing, what about that Wade chap, that’s a yellow card” etc etc etc

Yawn.

The 6 nations is the annual opportunity for the other home nations to vent their spleen against England and feel jolly good about it. ABE in full flow - the annual "English are arrogant but we are passionate" comments come out. Same old, same old.

It's how it always is. It'd be nice if Twickenham woke up a little bit in these games to be honest. As Blucher mentioned, the atmosphere is often lacking these days.

Trouble is we are arrogant because most of our fans watch rugby once a year for five weeks and say really stupid things when they're at HQ.

Similar experience in Newport in the mid-90s. Only other person in an England shirt was the barmaid.

I remember we won and I had to keep very quiet. Just checked and (if it was 96) we won 21-15.

Not sure how I got out unscathed.

Yeah I got chased through the streets of Newport in the 90s, there wasn't even rugby on. We were just a bit drunk and they heard the accent....
