They are trying to address why the number falls so dramatically.

I don't know why there has to be a reason. Maybe people just make a subconscious choice that they don't want their hobby to be a career.

One only needs to look at the result of quotas on Springbok rugby to know that they damage sport

Would that be quotas since the start of Springbok rugby? I don’t think the damage to sport was the main reason for objecting to them.

You need to understand Asian culture. Playing for the National team is just not neccessarily as big a thing as it is for our indigenous population and you can quote all the stats you like but ultimately you have to ask whether the average British Asian has playing for England as high on their radar as some.

I'm talking about quotas in recent years, being a big factor in the downturn in Springbok fortunes. That's at player and management level.

At no point did I bring up quotas.

Anyway, as always, there’s a definitive answer to everything and nothing worth chatting about even if for a brief minute it might seem interesting but nuanced.

Cricket is fine. Rugby is fine. We’re all good.

I mentioned quotas - I was alluding to the comment made by Only Joe Quin - "...having an interest in questions of diversity"

Quite a leap there. In general, I am not in favour of quotas and prefer diversity to be achieved through equality of opportunity.

Fair enough. I wasn't suggesting anything specifically, but mentions of diversity and equality are a bit of a trigger for me. I've met plenty of people who claim they want equality, but what they really want is equality of "the good stuff".

No offence intended to you.

Heron can also play 15. Could be that Gustatd wants a playmaker type full back, who also has a lot of gas.

Was that not Tim Swiel?

Swiel, wada great prospect but never devoted into a playmaker. He believed in his own pace too much. Since he has gone we have two like for like full backs. He could be a useful bench player able to cover various positions.

Hard to argue with that.
