1st Signing - Martin Landajo
« on: Monday 18-Mar-2019, 12:00* »
'THE DOOR OPENER' TO JOIN THE CLUB FOR THE 2019/20 SEASON

Harlequins is delighted to announce today that Argentinian Scrum-half Martin Landajo will join the Club as a new signing for the 2019/20 season.

The 30-year-old, who is one of his country’s most capped internationals with 84 appearances and was part of the Argentina squad which reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup, will complement Danny Care’s skillset and provide another level of leadership across the squad.

Landajo will team up with Harlequins from Jaguares following the World Cup in Japan, if selected for the Argentina national squad, and will look to make his debut for the London Club at The Stoop from November 2019.

“I cannot wait to get started with Harlequins,” said Landajo. “I have always admired the Club’s history and place in the English game and, under Paul Gustard, I can see they have become even stronger and are now in a great place to win trophies.”

Paul Gustard, Harlequins Head of Rugby, added: “Martin will be a wonderful addition to the squad and add greater density to our leadership group. They call him The Door Opener - and for good reason. His pace and creativity has been able to unlock defences at the highest level and we look forward to welcoming him at The Stoop later this year.

“He is a very impressive man who is driven to push on, test himself in a different environment and leave his own personal legacy in the game. We are delighted he is committing his future with us and we look forward to welcoming Martin and his young family to Quins.”

Good start to the week to have this confirmed. We all know how much we struggle whenever Danny isn't available - hopefully this means we won't have the same problems next season! Couple of ideal mentors for Saunders and Waters too...

Happy days.

Great signing! just what we need!

With Care and Landajo potentially playing in the world cup, we could be short right at the start of the season...

With Spencer preferred to Danny last weekend I'd say he will be in the Quarters right from the off next season.

I'm 50:50 on whether Danny will go to the WC. Eddie might decide he's worth taking as a "finisher". Every time Danny wears the 9 shirt for England he seems to really struggle. With 21 on his back he's rarely had a bad 20/30 mins for England - and more often than not he's had a stormer. Then again, Eddie doesn't bring scrum halves off the bench these days - seems to prefer to let Youngs run us up blind alleys, slow our ball right down and then kick it away to the oppo for 73 minutes. By which time it's too late for anyone to make a difference.

I hope he does go to the WC but if he doesn't it's really good news for us. I'm sure he'd be on standby if he's not on the initial plane though...

Looks like a good signing if a bit on the old side, but we need experience when Care is missing.

Don't you think Robson's unfortunate injury/illness makes it even more likely he will go? Just giving Spencer some belated game time? For Danny I hope he goes, for us quite happy if he doesn't!

Who knows? I didn't think Robson was due to be out longer term but having just googled his injury it appears he had spontaneous blood clots(?!) which doesn't sound great.

It does feel like Robson is Eddie's number 2 SH if fit and as I mentioned on another thread, I really wouldn't be surprised to see Eddie take just the 2 SHs. Because it's Eddie. If he does take 3 then I think it's a straight shoot-out between Danny and Wigglesworth. Eddie seems to like Wigglesworth for his game control. It's anyone's guess at the moment.
