2.6 Challenge - 26 London Rugby clubs
« on: Monday 27-Apr-2020, 18:34* »
Apologies for this being after the fact, but it was all a bit spur-of-the-moment. Last weekend was due to be my youngest's first rugby tour; naturally, it was postponed, probably til next year.

It was also due to be the London Marathon, and lots of people decided to do charity challenges around the number 2.6 in its place. Late on Friday night, that coalesced for me into trying to visit 26 different London rugby clubs in one cycle ride.

I managed it... and here's the proof. 46 miles, including a few dead ends and wrong turns. The highlights were finding Wimbledonians (at the second attempt - their sign was hidden behind an impressively leafy tree) and having a chat with the chaps there who were cooking food in the clubhouse for NHS workers, and being joined for the second half by my 15 year old, who managed 26 miles himself.

Anyway, I thought you might like to try guessing which clubs I got to. Here are some collages of the shots I took - I'll post individual photos if people want them:

And while I appreciate that lots of people will have been asking for your sponsorship this weekend, if anyone does feel like supporting my chosen cause (the National Deaf Children's Society), my JustGiving page is here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jason-s-2-6-challenge-26-rugby-clubs-40-miles

How long did it take you?

4:27:20. Which includes:
- 24 stops to take a photo
- 2 stops for a photo and a snack
- 3 extended detours
- 1 pee break

Not having a go at you but, are we not meant to do these kind of things at the moment?

If I was to drive the same distance as you have cycled to do my exercise I'm sure I'd be doing something I shouldn't.

Well you are having a go at him otherwise you wouldn't make those comments.

I'm sure you one of the group saying Captain Tom shouldn't have had an military escort on the final lap of his garden as the troops might have got more than 2 meters close.

It's for charity, it's not like he was out rubbing so shoulders with random people outside of his home group.

I'm sure the deaf children appreciate his efforts and support unlike you.

Absolutely right Saintquin, we aren’t supposed to be doing stuff like this. It might be for charity, and in normal circumstances very laudable, but the point is that if something goes wrong then it ropes in emergency services and the like. No different from the two divers who fancied a dip, on the face of it bothering no one, but ended up sparking a big rescue because one of them got in trouble. Not exactly following the ‘stay at home’ mantra is it?

So to play devils advocate, how is doing a charity bike ride by yourself any where near what is happening every day, people not following simple rules in supermarket for one way systems and distance separation, people sunbathing in parks, people standing next to each other clapping on Thursdays clearly not 2 me meters apart, navy submariners having a party on the dock side, footballers training in pairs in parks...oh wait......a man cycles by himself for what under 3 hours for deaf children's charity and he's the one breaking the rules and being shamed on here!

Four shame (pun intended)

If you have nothing nice have to say..........

Totally agree SwindonQuin, as long as you stick to social distancing guidelines and don’t do anything dangerous I can’t see the problem. Do they not say that most accidents happen in the home. A friends daughter that works in A&E in London has never known it so quiet , so that side of the NHS is not stretched anyway.

Where have I said anything bad?
I don't understand why you're having a go me when all I've done was to point out some guidelines the government (not me) have set.
Though I'm not really bothered what you think of me!
