Hi,

I've been at it again.

I've produced a new Visualisation that covers the full 136 Year history of the Six Nations / Five Nations / Home Nations Championship (from 1883!)

The Aim:
Produce a visual that could stand as a poster, providing detail of winners of the major trophies and successful eras of teams.  Whilst also providing added interactivity to the online version, giving detail of matches and more nation specific annotations.

I also wanted to try and go away from your traditional sports viz and do something less dashboard-like and more data-art.

Check out the interactive version here:

https://public.tableau.com/views/SixNations136YearHistorySportsVizSunday/FULLHISTORYOFTHESIXNATIONS?:embed=y&:display_count=yes:showVizHome=no

I've tried to pick out key moments in the championship, wish I had more time to add more comments to the individual nation views.

Did you know that BOTH England and France have been expelled from the Championship!?

Cheers

Sam

Very cool. Two small suggestions: it would be marginally easier to read if you could use the teams’ colours for the bubbles on the chart, and I think the “winning points” deserves some text in the main circle rather than just being in the legend (you could do it subtly by marking the start of bonus points).

Would you be OK with me reposting this to 606v2 and Facebook? I have friends on both who would really enjoy this. How would you like it attributed?

Hi

Of course I dont mind if you share it elsewhere!  Please do.

The team colours were purely a design choice.  I did try using the team icons instead of the circles etc , but it looked messy and the icons weren't defined enough to display correctly.

Still it was good fun putting it together.

Cheers

For those wondering what it is, but don't want to link to find out:

It is interactive, so do click and have more of a poke around if you feel inquisitive!

Thanks

The old BBC 606 messageboard reborn as an independent sports messageboard. It's where I go for most of my international rugby chat:
606v2 International
