Well, if he wears the bear costume too, he could coach from the sidelines and no-one would know! :)

£10 per hour?

Yes it's still under the recommended London living wage. Only just about under though.

I don't think they're supposed to make a living out of four hours (max) every two weeks in the season.

I’m pretty sure the idea of the living wage isn’t about what you pay for a two-hour gig in a bear suit on a Saturday afternoon.

Emily seemed keen enough, the kids loved her. I think she'll be as big a hit as the current bears.

Emily appeared to be one of the mice from the Disney Cinderella cartoon with additional vampire teeth.  Odd, but not as odd as Harley the lion/horse hybrid.

Does not mean the club should shirk the responsibilities of paying a decent hourly wage regarless if working 4 or 40 hours a week.

You think £10 an hour isn’t enough for arsing around in a bear outfit?

It’s enough for our babysitter and she has to look after a child, not just dance about in nylon fur.

Can’t say I’ve jumped around in a bear outfit before but I can imagine it’s very in there regardless if it’s summer or winter. And what’s a couple of tenners to Harlequins with all the tenners they collect on a matchday, and on the flip side what’s a couple of tenners to someone who would consider doing that an on the side job who may really need the extra income.

Im pretty sure the point is that £10 an hour is not an unacceptable rate of pay as suggested.

Minimum wage is £7.50.

Living wage for London is £10.20 - which is voluntary, but again, this isn't a "job" it's four hours every couple of weeks.

While I'm sure we can accuse Quins of lots of things, I really think picking what they pay the person in the bear suit as a sign that they're exploiting the labour market is a bit weird.

The people that used to do it when the bears were good were a brother and sister who at the uni -- they did it because they were Quins fans and loved it - remember when Harley used to do the caterpillar down the pitch and broke out dance moves every week?

Not been the same since they were forcibly mated with Disney characters.

You get to go to every match for free.
You get an unobstructed view of every game.
You are provided with a warm outfit for those cold winter days.
You sometimes get go to away games for free.
You get to go to some other events - e.g. the mascot race at the Oval.
You star in lots of promotional videos.
. . . and you get paid.

All I’m saying is what’s another couple more quid to the club when they make so much money. Where as for the person earning it values a couple of quid much more (who obviously wouldn’t be doing the job if they didn’t need the money you could argue). Can see the job attracting students or young persons needing the money.

I wouldn’t exactly call it a free game to watch at Harlequins. Do they ever just stand there and watch? To my memory their vision is more focused on the crowd and entertaining the young fans. Can’t imagine the view is great with that bear helmet on anyway!

I just feel people in good money or in a good job without these worries, forget the reasons why people would do these jobs in the first place. Not meaning to offend anyone here at all, but times are tough as it is for some people. And it’s these type of people we need to remember do these jobs (maybe working 2-3 jobs) for the money, not so much the high fives
