Re: Back to mid table mediocrity ?

This season was much better than the horror show of last season under JK. The fact we finished in 5th vs 10th is progress.

However, the reality check is that we ended up bang in line with our 13 season average position of mid-table mediocrity:
Past 13 season avge: Position: 5.6/Points 57
2018/19: Position: 5th/Points 58

We started with a mixed performance, had a strong mid season, then collapsed into a poor final third:
First 7 games: Won 3
Middle 8 games: Won 5
Final 7 games: Won 2

So, the big question for next season is whether Gustard can change the “playing model” (buying players + developing players + culture + selection + tactics) and raise Quins above our natural mid-table position.

I truly hope he can. But I’m unconvinced by his first round of recruitment, especially in the second row. Our scrum was ranked 12th in league and our Lineout continues to let us down.

He didn't have a great deal of time in which to recruit though, did he? Deals are often done well in advance of the season ending and he didn't have that luxury, so most players he may have gone for were contracted elsewhere.

He's added Baldwin for next season who's an excellent thrower. I'm sure he'll be adding to the second row as well.

I think he's done a great job taking us to where we've ended up from the horror show of last season and looking forward to seeing that develop next season.
