Tuilagi/Marchant is a centre pairing I've wanted to see for a looong time. I don't think we'll be seeing it on Saturday though.

If this game is all about giving a last chance for bolters to show what they can do then the centre pairing I'm expecting is Francis/Marchant - which is immediately much less exciting and puts all of the onus on Joe to break the gain line, because Francis sure as hell won't. Still, that would make the most sense given the players he's kept in the squad ahead of this weekend - I don't know why you'd risk injuring Tuilagi (which is always high risk, let's be honest) at this stage. He's already on the plane and has nothing to prove.

If Eddie doesn't play Marchant against Wales then I'm not quite sure why he's retained him in the squad other than because of a niggling injury to Slade or JJ that we don't know about.

Other than that, that 15 is pretty much exactly what I'd expect to see (Genge at 1 and Williams at 3)... If this game is about what we think it's about.

Hopefully we'll see

McConnochie (I'm told he's better under the defensive high ball than Watson, hopefully that's true)
Cokanasiga
Marchant
Manu (but it'll be Francis)
Watson
Ford
Youngs (has been injured)
Billy
Curry
Underhill (see if he covers 6)
Kruis (been out for a bit)
Launchbury
Cole (to fight for a place on the plane)
Singleton
Genge

Marler, LCD, Sinck/Williams, Ewels, Ludlam, Heinz I guess, Francis (but it'll be someone else as he'll start, if so then hopefully Daly), Joseph

I would love to see Joseph starting. (Not Jonathan).

I was at the England dinner last night (spur of the moment present from my wife) and had a brief chat with Eddie Jones. He was very gracious. My son asked him how he was feeling about the weekend game. He didn't pause; "I got other priorities at the moment mate". So not that bothered then.

My £80 seat behind the posts sincerely hopes someone puts some effort in.....

England squad selection won’t 'swing' on Wales game

I know they've said that but there's simply no way, just in terms of logic and who they've included and excluded from the squad, that this is true, baring injury or someone who plays on Saturday being so awful they can't justify picking them.

The only other possibility is that Brown or someone like that has always been Eddie's choice to bring to Japan for months no matter what and it's not deemed necessary to play him but then having  first XV players who will definitely start in Japan in the squad makes that seem exceedingly unlikely.

So selection may not swing on the Wales game but given it's a 33 man squad with two likely players he is hoping to come back (sadly one is Shields), I think it's fair to say that aside from maybe Spencer, anyone not in this matchday squad has essentially no chance
