Bath Away is pretty important.
« on: Sunday 16-Feb-2020, 23:37* »
Just having a look at the fixtures next week and thinking what the table may look like and how close/far we might be to/from 4th place.

We have been in great form against Bath having beaten them 4 times consecutively in cup, league and Europe since losing at home to them early last season (I think I have that right). That has to continue on Saturday!

Looking around at other fixtures: Exeter host Saints at the top, Briz host Wuss and Sale host Leicester. Exeter v Saints is out of our range at present, so not immediately relevant. But if the other two are home wins, as you would expect, then they will both have 30/31 points (with a BP).

Therefore, a win puts us on 26/27 (with BP) and in touch with the leading pack. A loss will see Bath stretch ahead to 29/30 (with BP). It will also mean either Glaws stretch away from us as well or Irish jump over us, depending on who wins that one.

I know that this has been a crazy season and I write about expected home wins on a weekend of 4 away wins  but my main point is that we have to be targetting a big win over Bath if we want to keep up the chase in the next few weeks.

I know we will have several centres and Earle returning at the end of March, I just don't want that to be too late for a top 4 push!

Come on you Quins!

Lower table mediocrity beckons.

We are nowhere near atop 4 side. We’ll be lucky to get into the top 6

I will keep believing we can until we definitely can't!

My original post was looking at the fact that if we lose we are in a difficult position, so we really have to win!

Our next few league games are against Bath, Exeter, Bristol, Sale and Sarries. Most of whom are currently above us. So, we have to raise our game starting with Saturday. The main thing we need to do is eliminate the mistakes. I would love to be at their training this week to see what they are working on!

Thank you for the responses.

On the plus side we are still 94 points ahead of Sarries!

Two wins against essentially A league sides glossed over an abomination of a performance against Irish.

Agreed.

Not only that - I’m not sure I want us to qualify for the Champions Cup when we have no realistic opportunity to compete.

At the moment, I can’t decide what I think ... I find it hard to judge when we have so many injuries and have probably never seen our best 23 from the current squad!

On the one hand I think there is an argument to say PG inherited a poor quality and demotivated squad with most of the better players past their best, so has been fighting with one hand tied behind his back. The optimist in me wants me to believe it Will get better. Baldwin and Landajo have been rubbish so far, but most of his signings have been good IMO - even if it’s taken the likes of Lasike and Kunatani a while to show their worth.

On the other hand, the pessimistic view is that PG is a bit of a bluffer who talks a good game but has mostly failed to get the most out of the squad ...

Realistically, we have very little chance of qualifying for the Champions Cup now so I’m hoping that some decent signings to follow Esterhuizen and Louw will put us in a better position to put up a good fight in the league and Challenge Cup next season. If we than qualify for the Champions Cup, my hope is that we’re actually ready to properly compete.

Quins by 2 with stunning try in the corner with last play of the match.

Oh, no, that was last year.

Bath have got a couple of a results and will be looking to go on a bit of a run. We're still decimated by injuries and coming off a shocker of a performance. I fear we'll get a bonus point at best, but we are so inconsistent who knows? My main concern looking at the fixtures is how many winnable games are there?
