Bath Crowd
« on: Sunday 03-Mar-2019, 07:22* »
It's the second time I've visited the Rec for a Quins game and both times I've come away thinking the home support was really subdued and in contrast to the pre-match atmosphere in the town with every other pedestrian wearing a Bath rugby shirt with pride. In fairness, we've won on both occasions and yesterday we scored 2 tries in quick succession early on which may have contributed to the mooted atmosphere, but there were hardly any cheers/chants/songs from the home supporters all game unless they scored. The Dyson stand has no roof which may contribute to the lack of atmosphere, but I wondered if anyone else had the same experience ? Quins supporters were loud and proud in the away section as usual !

I was sat in front of someone who was trying to explain the game to his companion. Sadly, he didn't have a clue himself. Talking about the 10 men in the scrum, and claiming that players these days are around 250kg.
The crowd weren't very lively though, I agree.

A bunch of us walking towards the stadium in full quins attire looking/feeling very joyful and happy whilst chatting with Bath fans. Pub atmosphere was great but soon as we hit the REC it all seemed so muted. Had problems getting in the ground due to gate problems with security shouting to get to our seats. Harlequins Chris M did his usual best to muster up support. Bath fans did their best to drown out COYQ with COY Bath! Thatchers cider helped our singing along too! Smiles all the way home!

My boys (6 and 5) and I cheered on the Quins throughout the match. A Bath fan behind me said (in jest) after 20 minutes: "I'm glad I don't sit next to you every week! "

In the words of Yoda: "That is why you fail!" Should have been my reply!

A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd!

I couldn't hear the Bath crowd, not necessarily because they were subdued, but because the noise Wimledon RFC kids/coaches/parents were making in the SW corner! Fantastic! When Earle scored in front of us I'm sure the roof lifted.
However, I do agree the Bath fans were subdued on the way back to the pubs.
Great day to be there.

There was an Italian youth side (from Padova?) there in the SW corner making more noise than most! They loved it and were mixed on with a bunch of youths from Wimbledon, I think.

Talking to Bath fans before and after the game, they are fed up with the team and especially the management at the moment. TB not a we’ll like chap.

Yeah, the match thread on their board is pretty damning.

Yes, it reads like our board from last season.

Yes, like Leicester, perhaps they should change their management structure (again)...

Next season we could well be in the same position. It seems that when we end up in the top six and Champions cup our performance falls away in all competitions. Let us hope our new management change that.
