I read this earlier. I'm really not sure what Ugo is going on about.

I am not Te'o's greatest fan but this article smacks of Ugo wanting to poke him in the eye due to him being a big pal of Brownie, and the bad blood over the recent incident.

Really? I'm not going to quote it all, but it seemed pretty clear to me.

Well yes, he's saying that a 32 year old player who hasn't made the latest England squad, and probably won't again, should hang around in the hope that a premiership club can sign him for a pittance in the vain hope that he may replace an injured England player in the RWC, and shouldn't have signed a deal for a prestigious French club who are probably paying him good money. Why that stinks I have no idea.

Ugo's well and truly backed the wrong horse here. Regardless of whether or not I am a fan of Te'o's, I honestly can't blame him for heading off to Toulon and then Japan. Eddie Jones has made it clear that he's surplus to requirements and his (EJ's) track record suggests that once he's made that decision you're done and done - just ask Brownie. There is a very limited window of opportunity for professional rugby players to make their money, so why shouldn't Te'o grasp the nettle while he can? After all, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander: he owes England Rugby the same as they owe him - naff all.

IMH I think that what he was saying was that for all the players aspiring to get on the plane to Tokyo and those sitting at home keeping fit incase of injuries and they get a call - its quite disrespectful.  Its not my home country but I think he has a point about national pride.  S Lancaster - in my opinion put the pride back into the English shirt and you see it every time an English team stands and sing the National Anthem.  There is a certain amount of pride and Nationalist fervour.  Teo snubbed all of that with his behaviour.  Good for Ugo to stand up and voice what I am sure quite a few pundits privately think.

That's a point I guess, but equally why should Te'o sit at home all full of hope and "maybe, just maybe" when Eddie Jones has shown no faith or respect back? Money talks and at a point you have to look after #1, national pride or otherwise.

And further to TeddingtonQuins point I think Ugo is also hinting at the disrespect shown towards Mike Brown personally (without Ugo mentioning names). We don’t know the complete ins and outs but the jist of it seems to be that Teo threw a tantrum of sorts during a team building excercise, and when Mike Brown approached Teo to calm him temper/told him to pack it in Teo socked him one. I doubt that even if Brown had a sour impression of Teo that he would knowingly jeopardise his own World Cup chances by sorting out Teo and this is why I believe Brown tried to tell Teo to stop playing up in a “teammate” type manner and Teo didn’t take too well to this. Brown wasn’t expecting to get lamped and now two good players miss out on a World Cup spot. The thing Ugo points out here is that it’s a bit of a slap in the face to Brown, who 1. Didn’t instigate the incident, 2. Got punished for trying to (in his eyes) showcase good teammate skills in trying to defuse the situation in a team building exercise, and 3. Suffers harsh consequences. Brown loves more than anything to play for his country and it really shows when he does, he is desperate to get back into that England team and I think it’s clear it’s been quite hard on him for missing out because of this. Then there’s Teo who clearly doesn’t give two rubber ducks about playing for England in the future (probably only attended the selection process because of the £xx,000 per game incentive and not for a genuine passion for playing for England) decides to leave for France. It rubs salt into other players wounds who missed out and shows he clearly doesn’t care about being there and it clearly shows that he doesn’t deserve to be. I completely get Ugo’s point

Because Teo clearly had no respect for his England teammates nor the passion to play for England, and was only there for the 🤑 cash bonus per test played. He didn’t show Eddie or his teammates any respect in acting like an utter donut in the England camp, clearly didn’t take it seriously enough. Yes money talks which was why he was probably there in the first place as per the reasons I’ve mentioned above and now that boat has well and truly sailed his true colours shine on through. Good luck to him and his future and if that’s what he wants to do then fine but it’s disrespectful to his fellow teammates and coaches and to drag a guy who clearly wants to be there (Brown) with him is nothin short of a jerk move. No respect shown in the first place. And as for how Worcester Warriors supporters and teammates must feel...

Well in that case Ugo should have been specific, and I'd have no quarrel with that. The stuff about showing disrespect by not hanging around and earning little to no money is rubbish. Also, Ugo has no idea what EJ told Teo - he may have said 'sorry mate, I have a no d**kheads policy and that's twice you've come up short".

The difference here, surely, is that Teo has no club (i.e. no salary), and the more time goes on before the start of the season, with him being in a no-man's land (no club, no RWC call-up), the less likely he is to get one. Is it not entirely plausible that Teo has said to EJ "Shall I hang around? Might you still call me up?" and EJ has said. "No, go and get a club for yourself, good luck mate"?

I find it hard to believe that someone in England wouldn't have picked him up on a short term contract during RWC.

Unless, of course, they all think he is a d***head too.
