Can't I just watch a rugby match, without a load of singing and dancing and stuff?

I just want a game of rugby. Is that so unnatural?

Then the Big Game is perfect for you, the singer - if there is one - is only before the game or during half time and is usually just there for the kids. Otherwise it's a big game of rugby.

Got mine.  I really enjoy it, out of this and the double header so glad we kept this.  Usually a good game and great atmosphere, I don’t think the side shows take over just add to a good day out.  Each to there own though otherwise it wold be a dull world.

We don’t normally get Mexican waves at Big Game I think you are confusing it with Double Header certainly against Saints there was not just embarrassment

Never been one at a Big Game that I’ve seen. One got attempted last year or year before and rightly died on its bottom.

It’s a great Xmas tradition and a really good event.

BG has a place in my heart as BG1 was the last rugby game that my Dad attended, and BG* was the last rugby game that my mum ever went to. They both loved the whole atmosphere & going to Twickenham some 40+ years since they last went. It was also somewhat fitting that the last game that Mum went to was against Gloucester (who she supported after they'd moved there some 30 years before) and we drew the game.

If you don't like the singing/entertainment before the game, take a book with you and you can sit in your seat & read. Personally I think the club have really done the sport proud by cottoning on to the idea that Stade F. first came up with and making it into a big event. It makes money for the club, grows the profile of the sport in general (BG10 was the first Premiership game ever to be broadcast on FTA Terrestrial TV), and has created a regular event for folks over the Christmas period.

Well said FF
Mind you as for the don’t get Mexican waves, they usually have a good go and it dies a death

My family love going, more so than the Stoop, for me always prefer the Stoop, but as Fred said it’s good for the club so once a year is fine
Still waiting in trepidation that we might have a game in the states for a big game , now that I won’t support

A great game to watch, also a great game to invite family and friends for a festive gathering or maybe introduce them to rugby if they are keen to get into it! I like that we have our charity shirts each year and chose a different charity each year. Plus always good to watch a game at Twickenham England Rugby HQ too!

I don’t mind the entertainment, it’s never normally spectacular, but it adds to the festive feel and is something different from the regular prem rugby gameday experience!

If its primary purpose is growing the fan base then its working and I support it, but it isn't my favourite match of the year I have to agree with some. Totally unscientific view but, Prem Final 2012, Quins fans seemed to outnumber Tigers fans that day and that couldn't have happened without BG.

With a new 25,000 stadium (or someone even said 30,000) to fill, BG will be running for some years to come.

I look forward to Big Game , great excuse after Christmas to have a friends and family get together . atmosphere , crowd and rugby under lights ,also a rare opportunity for many to see Club Rugby at HQ -( they do a great deal for kids with cheap tickets )- I hope it carries on

I was tempted to say its taken over from the Pantomime as a Christmas 'go to' ... ( so much material in that !)

Precisely, Deadly! Mark Evans knew his onions when in came to promoting the game, and he picked the perfect time for it!

Yep! Marketing as a family event (and using the lure of things like X-Factor winners in the early days meant that kids & younglings not particularly into Rugby would happily go with parents, alongside the chance for parents to get out of the house for a few hours in that long week between Christmas & New Year was a great idea. Yes, other clubs have managed to get decent crowds to games at other times (e.g. Sarries at Wembley, Bath or Wasps at TW), but really we've been the most successful out of all of them because we picked the ideal time of the year, and somehow we've yet to have a poor overall performance, so people are now beginning to see it as a part of their Christmas routine.
