Tehir back row is seriously good, will we go with Semi at 7 do you think, with Baby Chis and Robshaw at 6? or start with Smash at 8?

Bothma.

Its tough as both Dombrandt and Semi looked good Monday.  Add to that Chis, Robshaw and Bothma someone has to miss out.  I would guess Dombrandt would be the man this time to sit out .

Thing is, Dombrandt has been in the squad longer. Semi's only been with us a couple of weeks. Has he had enough time to get used to things like our defensive patterns, line-out calls/options, set plays etc?

True, although I think he has spent just as long injured so not much chance to put it into practice in training

I'd be amazed if Dombrandt is anywhere near a 1st XV starting place yet. One A team start - although impressive - doesn't justify selection ahead of Bothma, Kunatani, Wallace, White or Luamanu. His future looks bright though!

Smash = Bothma, it's what he has on his forearm guard :-)

Semi is a quality player who made some scintillating breaks in the A League on Monday, he's an experienced player. Dombrandt although he looked good too in the A Team is still only a kid.

How experienced is Semi? He has 2.5 Fiji caps on the wing, and a handful of caps for toulouse. Has he ever played flanker competitively?

Get him to pick it up and pass to Ibitoye who runs with it in one hand, not tucked under the arm.

Chisholm ahead of Bothma for me at time. Happy to see them both in the back row with Robshaw though until Wallace or Clifford are back

I am yet to believe the hype around Semi and it comes down mostly to his physique. He's lean/sinewy/gangly. I can see plainly what the hype is built upon - this perception of him being a "powerful" 7s player. But "power" in 7s is very different to "power" on the more densely populated 15-a-side field. My feeling is he'll get knocked all over the place by bigger forwards who thrive on the non-flashy stuff that happens all around the ruck in 15s and you pretty much never see in 7s. But that feeling is only based on what I saw when watching the A League game the other night (which, let's face it, might as well have been 7s). Which is to say: I'm positively begging to be proven wrong but until he proves he can use his body in the right way on a pitch where he doesn't have the space to make the most of his undoubted anaerobic fitness and long legs I don't quite get why he's being hailed as something close to the answer to all our problems. He certainly isn't going to be a breakdown specialist with his 7s background! The hype is all a bit weird to me.

Agree completely. Looks like squad filler at absolute best. Happy to be proven wrong!

I think he's put on quite a bit of weight, so I'm not sure his physique is a massive issue, but I'm not sure he was exactly all-action even playing 7s.

I agree on this. Looks like a very useful player, but perhaps not useful in a specilist position. I'd have thought wing / centre or even second row would be more suitable, but let's wait and see.

On the hype point though, I feel the same way about Bothma. He's looked ok in a few outings for us, and I'm sure his #smash stuff is all very fun, but I've not seen the same wrecking ball others have. I also don't consider being captain of Namibia to be of any relevance when judging a player's capabilities. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

The impression I had of Bothma against Sale was that he typifies the fight and intensity that one would hope would be a given each time Quins play. I suspect he inspires his fellow players to play that way better than most. So yeah, he's not been making barnstorming runs of 15m+ but he does look like he's providing something that we've not really seen since Big Mo - smashing into things in attack and defence with a manic commitment.
