Room 101: Harlequins fly-half Brett Herron

1. People that are chronically late
One of the main things my dad drilled into me at a young age was the importance of punctuality. As a result, I aim to arrive early at an event and if I’m meeting a mate or even leaving the house with friends, if they’re late, it does get on my nerves. Some of my best friends are the worst culprits of this – despite years of me letting them know, it’s water off a duck’s back to them. People who haven’t left enough time to get somewhere, or are just plain rude, can be prone to another pet peeve of mine – queue cutting. At the airport, the excuse is always the same – “sorry, I’m late for my flight”.  As if the rest of us don’t have one to catch too!

TRP verdict: Cometh the hour cometh the man. You’re in.

2. Wrong use of you’re/your
A mistake I used to make on a daily basis when messaging was the use of your and you’re. It wasn’t until someone kept flagging me on it that I finally corrected myself. However, as a result of this, I can’t help but frequently notice the mistake.

TRP verdict: Between you, me and an apostrophe, that’s a very good choice.

3. Clapping when the plane lands
I’ve never understood why people feel the need to clap once a plane has landed, whether it be short or long haul. It’s almost as if the pilot has surprised the clap-happy passengers with his ability to do his job and get them from A to B safely. On the bright side, to see the gleeful reactions, does on occasion, have comical value.

TRP verdict: We applaud you for getting three from three.
