Cavubati Extends Time At The Stoop
« on: Thursday 27-Feb-2020, 10:02* »
POWERFUL FIJIAN LOCK TEVITA CAVUBATI RE-SIGNS WITH HARLEQUINS.

Harlequins is pleased to confirm that physical Fijian second row Tevita Cavubati has extended his contract ahead of the 2021/22 Gallagher Premiership season.

The 30-times-capped international lock arrived at The Stoop late last year, joining the Club from Newcastle Falcons following the conclusion of Fiji’s 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan.

Standing at a towering 6ft5” and 120kg, Cavubati first arrived in England ahead of the 2015/16 season with Worcester Warriors, subsequently moving to Newcastle in May 2017.

Tevita debuted for Fiji in 2011 against Tonga, and has gone on to feature in the last two Rugby World Cups before making 15 appearances for Harlequins, to date.

Having extended his time with Harlequins, Cavubati said: “I grew up in the capital of Fiji called Suva (Suvababy) and Fiji has the most passionate rugby fans you will ever meet. The country follows all rugby clubs across the world that have Fijian players in their squads. You would see Harlequins jerseys constantly whilst growing up and people would talk about how they played.

“Since joining the Club, I’ve had the pleasure of wear the jersey fifteen times so far and have loved every minute of it. While I obviously hope to bring a level of physicality to the game as a second row, Quins is a club that plays attractive rugby, and I really value that. I’m delighted to be able to extend my time here.”

Paul Gustard, Harlequins’ Head of Rugby, said: “We are delighted Tex has agreed to extend his time at the Club. He’s been a physically dominant presence whenever he’s pulled on the Quarters and has consistently secured Quins the type of gain line success that is so crucial in modern rugby – as both a destructive tackler and carrier.

“He’s a Fijian boy with real character and adds far more than just his outstanding contributions on the pitch, he’s a popular figure around the training ground. We’re delighted to have Tex extend his time with the Club as we continue to build strong foundations for success.”

Cavubati joins teammates Joe Marchant, Matt Symons, Paul Lasike, Will Collier, Luke Northmore and Alex Dombrandt in announcing the renewal of his contract, heading into the 2020-21 season.

Nice! Hopefully he'll persuade Semi to extend his stay too.

I don’t blame him- can’t for the life of me see how Chisholm (either one) starts ahead of him.

Good signing - always glad to see him on the team sheet - preferably as an impact sub for Symons/Lewies.

Because one is a wing/fullback when he starts, and the other is one of our best back row players.

I do think Semi should get more game time, but I doubt he'd fare well at fullback.

Good news IMO. I like Tex - he adds a bit of grunt and aggression that we seem to lack at times. I think he needs a run of gmaes to get the best out of him though.

Letting go of Semi is madness.
He is a player who can play in almost any position.
It can also play winger, as in Toulouse.
He won the gold medal with Fiji at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in seven.
I don't think he misses speed.

For the next year:
 n.6 Chisholm (Pieter-Steph du Toit ?) n.7 Kunatani n.8 Dombrandt

I don’t think James has been great at all this season and I’d genuinely rather have Semi on the wing than Ross

James has been one of our best players in several games. I understand people not rating Ross, but James is a very good, very consistent player, who rarely (if ever) lets us down.

Every thought Ross is cheap and so why kept? Also maybe keep Ross to keep James?

Ross also can play in lots of positions and as we saw in A team has played 10 for them.

Does this mean we are more or less likely to sign Naka?
