Return To Play is different for professional players and amateurs. In the amateur game there are strict time limits enforced, but because the pros have doctors on site all the time they can monitor symptoms closely and make the call based on that.

It's possible to be knocked out without concussion, and possible to get concussion without being knocked out. It's also highly uncertain how long the symptoms will last - it took James Chisholm 4 months, I think, while some players have been cleared to play in under a week and some Welsh players seem to recover fully within minutes.

I didn't see the Murley incident properly but Morris definitely looked knocked out.

Murley hit the tackler and ground hard, but was moving reasonably quickly after the hit - but he was certainly stunned for 10 seconds - whether he was out cold was hard to tell from the telly. PG was hinting at the fact that he'd have to find cover - with limited injury dispensation money left as he's used a fair bit already - for backs for the remainder of the month immediately after the game, which suggests he's thinking that at least one won't make the next game.

I wouldn't be taking LI lightly - they recently beat Saints (albeit with man sent off) and won't be missing many players other than through injury. You'd hope that we can cope, but if it gets messy - like Worcester - then we could be in trouble with a weakened side out.

What injury cover have we brought in other than Penny and Gray? Don't we get £400,000 allowance? I realise that the actual money has to be available, not just the allowance. Or do we have a one or more squad members who are actually injury cover, such as Goneva?

Perhaps Goneva, but I was just picking up on PG's comments; may be the money isn't there or, just as likely or more so, where to get a payer from - most leagues in the world are now playing - it might cost a fair bit to get a decent deal.

We signed scrum half Lloyd Wheeldon early in the season on a short term contract, was that also injury cover?

Yes this is a common misunderstanding. Whilst there is the injury allowance permitted under salary cap rules, a club will only recruit a replacement if they are prepared to pay the replacement's salary in addition to that of the injured player for the duration of his injury. We simply might not have the money available

I think HIA protocol means you will be out for a minimum of three weeks as long as there are no symptoms in that time. That will be Marley and Morris out.
nah.

I completely understand that, but presumably when the choices are paying a bit over the odds or literally not having enough players to field a 23 then your hand is somewhat forced.

I know that's not quite the case, as we have academy players we can select

My mistake, that’s for u18s . It’s 1 week for professionals if passed fit by a Doctor.

I very much doubt we'd risk missing out on top 4 or top 6 to save a few hundred grand.
