Cup return points
« on: Sunday 16-Sep-2018, 14:21* »
Noticed there appears to be less locations to return your beer cups now - club hoping people will get fed up with queuing and getting their money back??

There's 3 isn't there?  I thought there were 3 last season?
You can also return them in the Kings bar.

Rumour has it - that some young lads had swept the grounds, the previous game, rocked up at the returns point with handfuls of them and been turned away as they were not old enough to drink!!

Seems a little OTT!

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s the same as last year.

The ludicrous thing is the bars where you can only return 2 during each round - so if you’re buying for 4 people, you can’t just buy the beer and swap cups.

Ludicrous - surely it’s actually easier if the transactions are cashless?

Not experienced that, if you are buying 4 an have 4 cups to exchange they should accept that.
I have experienced the outside bars not accepting 2 cups when only buying one beer.

There are bins you can just chuck your cup in and the club will give the money to charity. The club hasn't exactly been big in spreading the news. There's one by the exit gate in the North West corner, just on the right by the gate.

Also experienced the "I have two cups but can only use one to buy a single drink" stupid rule. My brother has one pint when we get to the ground, then stops cos he's driving. I went for a second pint at half time but couldn't get rid of both cups, so still had 2 at the end of the game which I chucked in the charity bin.

No charity bin in the South East corner. And not one steward, nor either of the staff running the returns hut had any idea what I was talking about. Are you sure you're not just throwing them into landfill?!

Agree. There was an announcement/statement prior to the Sale game that over 18's only could return cups. Clearly designed to stop youngsters collecting and claiming a few quid. Seems a bit miserly. I hope they reverse the decision.

Whilst agreeing that enterprising whippersnappers is not necessarily a bad thing, having them furtle under your seat and grabbing them out of your hand is a lickle bit irritating.

Massive queue as I left on Saturday in the SE corner. Seemed silly to wait 10 mins for £2, so gave them to a kid in the queue. Would have much preferred to put them in a charity bin. Also fell foul of the cant'-redeem-more-cups-than-drinks-you're-buying nonsense. What's the point of that?

Not sure how you get away with that. You pay for the cup, so you should be able to redeem in regardless of what you are buying next. What kind of terms and conditions would allow you to refuse to allow a redemption?

If the whole point is to prevent littering and waste, you should be positively encouraged to return them!

Seems like a bank issuing a currency and then refusing to deal in it......

I think I know what's happening regarding the people returning 2 glasses & ordering one pint. The Point of Sales terminals (yes, they're known as PoS for a reason!) will probably be programmed by provider with two buttons per drink. One is the price including the £1 for the glass, and the other is for the drink with the £1 taken off for a returned glass. So, if someone brings back 2 glasses & orders only one drink, it's harder to do in a single transaction. Instead, the software would expect two transactions: A sale of one drink at the reduced price and a separate refund of £1 for the other returned glass. It's rare that you process a refund and a sale in the same transaction, and the software probably isn't written to do this.

Yes, it's technically do-able for the bar staff to do the two separate transactions, but that takes up extra time, which is what they're trying to reduce. Plus there's the chance that the cash gets given back to the customer, but the staff forgets to process the second transaction of the refund, so the till doesn't tally up at the end of the shift.

All of which makes perfect sense, until you look at it from the point of view that the punter is entitled to his redemption amount, and not allowing the transaction is, in crude terms, stealing the £1 that you are entitled to.

I'm sure this was not done with that in mind specifically, but if the net effect is that hundreds (thousands?) of people are not allowed to get their £1 back, that is going to add up over the season.
