BT were far too greedy. They should have collected more market share before raising their prices. I got BT sport when it first came out, with sky sports, and it was 21 quid a month. Now it's more like 50, without sky.

It just didn’t work. They went in hard thinking that by offering lots of sport for not much money you’d get millions of new triple or quad play customers taking all your services.

They didn’t.

So they’ve got to now make the money back by charging everyone much more.

Price elasticity graphs are funny things - especially for non essentials.

I chose to have BT Broadband because it is the highest speed where I am and got BT Sport free of charge. I currently also have Sky Sort & Entertainment for £40 per month. When the 18 month contract expires I will threaten to leave to get it reduced to just Sports because, frankly, the "Entertainment" is pants.
I think we now pay £5 a month for BT Sports because we renewed/threatened to leave our BT Broadband contract.
We feel this is a reasonable state of affairs.
It would be nice if FTA channels looked at broadcasting The Rugby Championship and The European Challenge Cup.

Unfortunately it is down to rights.

I assume the rights to Challenge games go with the Champions Cup - but as only BT are showing them, they can fill the schedule without needing to show those. Maybe when they get to the knock out they will show both.

The rights to Championship games were included with the Premeriership deal. The matches Sky showed never set the rating alight. So if they were available seperately, would there be a big enough audience to make it worth the filming costs.

Chicken and egg. If you promote it properly you can create the audience.

To be fair, even soccer has problems getting large viewing figures for anything below the Premier League in domestic league football, so it's hardly surprising that the Championship in our sport is hardly setting the world alight...

Yes but one of the minor FTA channels which also survive on small audiences would probably be delighted to carry the coverage I would have thought?

But who would pay for cost of coverage?

Advertisers?

Well you'll need more than small audiences, then.
