Simpson is nowhere near Danny's level. If he came he should be clear second choice, and I'd rather we gave Saunders and Waters a chance. I imagine Simpson's wage demands are what you'd expect to pay for a first choice 9

Have to agree - there are much smarter moves for both Quins and Simpson. I have a feeling Simpson might get a run of games as starting scrum half at Worcester/Newcastle/London Irish for example. London Irish seems the most likely move in my mind.

Agreed re obviously not being on Danny's level. But if Mulchrone and Lewis are off and DC then gets injured would you really want to be relying on Saunders and Waters? Simpson would be a good option whilst bringing those two on, but you're probably right that he'll want first choice level wages.

Fair enough. Who would you look to bring in, Tom?

Id rather Waters get a go, been around a while now. Played for Worthing, Ealing, Esher, Jersey.  Had some game time with us.  Good chance for him to start staking a claim, if not he never will get a shot with us. Will be 23 at the start of next season, time to show a bit of faith in him.  I am also a big fan of Saunders.  The only problem we might have is if Care gets in the England squad but after the world cup I can see Robson and Spencer getting a decent chance.

We have been linked to Martín Landajo.  The thing when asking about who would you bring in, as fans we generally have no idea who is actually available.  There are players out there, always are.

Irish are favourites to sign Phipps from Aus

Interesting - hadn't heard that one. Understood re not knowing whose available. I just thought as Tom said there were smarter options out there for Quins he might have some options in mind. As you can see I'm a bit of a newbie to the forums so forgive me while I learn the ropes!

No malice intended.  it will probably be one of these where a name suddenly pops up and people say "oh, had not thought of him"  I will say, the names we are being linked to give me a fair bit of confidence for next season

Yeah, tbh it was more just about Quins not having to pay top dollar for a definite no. 2/3 scrum half - in full agreement with honkytonk, would like Waters to have a decent shot at claiming no. 2 berth and start him on the succession curve. Will soon find out if he's good enough.

Landajo is an interesting one. Very classy player. The right kind of level of experience and ability for sure but feels like he would churn up a good chunk of salary cap and would be away on international duty a fair bit too - which all makes him less appealing. But if we can get him on a good deal then he's pretty much spot on if we're just talking about the type of player we want.

Aside from that, and talking in total hypotheticals... Andy Uren at Bristol looks very handy and is fighting it out over there with Harry Randall and Nic Stirzaker - maybe he could be prized away for a not-too-significant sum. Or if we just wanted to buy Calum Waters a little more time then bringing in an old head like a Willi Heinz or Will Chudley/Kahn Fotuali'i (both at Bath - maybe worth a raid?) for a year could do the trick. As above, hard to know who's available/open to talking. Either way, I hope the plan is to invest in Waters and Saunders - both look to have some serious zip about them.

Over the moon. One of the greats. Fantastic for our chances competing for honours for the next two years and equally great to have him mentor our up and coming scrum halves for a further two years.

‘Success’ this season depends more on him than any other player. Delighted he’s re-signed. Quality 2nd choice brought in is an imperative looking to next season. Can’t risk relying on the youngsters yet.

Always thought Harrison at Leicester would be a good fit for Quins.
