Agree with that. The Power of 4 is working so why fix it? Surely you can delay a new DOR until it is/becomes neccessary?
Or you can look to find someone who works well with that dynamic and can help them to look further ahead and develop themselves so that it doesn't "become necessary" (i.e. the wheels don't come off the first time we hit a big crisis).
I can't talk to what Quins management are doing, but if I were in their shoes I would be looking to recruit someone who will leave well alone the bits that are working but look to focus on areas that can be improved (tactics to close out a game when the momentum is with the other side), longer term tactical evolution (how do we keep it fresh? How do we integrate new talent and make the most of it?) and coach development.
There are different styles of DoR. Deano was pretty hands on. COS was happier to leave a lot of the day to day to JK and work on the bigger picture and the systems. Gustard was hands on when he would have been better to stand back, listen to his coaches and focus on the big decisions. JK was great in a hands on role but couldn't step up to do the bigger picture stuff.
If we can find someone who wants to take that COS style role, I think it could work well and give us a chance at the sustained performance over multiple years that has eluded us even at our best. I think it would be an attractive job for the right type of coach - a lot of freedom to think longer term because you can have faith in what the day to day coaching team are doing. It would need the accountability and metrics to be set up correctly - and one of the biggest challenges would be setting the right expectations for the role with the fans. But if it worked, it could be really good for the club.
