If he hadn't been injured do you think Danny would have been flown out to Japan or would it still have been Spencer?

Spencer, Care is well out of favour with Eddie Jones.

To be honest and I say this sadly I don’t think the ‘old’ brigade will be back for England it will move on to the youngsters which is, of course, how it should be. Joe Merchant and I wonder if we will see Marcus in the future? Gabs?

Of our current crop, I'd say Marchant, Dombrandt and Smith will probably be in the larger England squad by this time next year. All of them are already on the fringes (In Marchant's case, he's probably the proverbial "next cab off the rank" in there's an injury in the centres, given his use during the warm-up games). I think Smith will find it the toughest to break into the squad on a regular basis, because of the two/three ahead of him. None of them are due to retire any time soon...

I think Earle before his injury was a much more rounded winger than Gabs.

Come the 6 nations I fully expect Marchant to be ahead of Joseph in the England pecking order, and imho should have been before the World Cup.

Can’t see Smith getting a look in unless Ford picks up an injury.

Smith will be in England squads quite quickly I reckon. Might push his way onto the bench against the likes of Italy, Scotland.

Marchant should be able to push on now but will have a job to do to get ahead of Slade/Tuilagi. Similar to above - will probably be eased in against Italy, Scotland, maybe Ireland - but possibly as a starter against Italy.

Dombrandt I think could start to share game time with Billy. Billy's had well-documented injury problems and I can see England management putting together a plan to see him through to 2023. Dombrandt could be the guy to enable that.

That sounds about right. At the end of last season I’d have said Ibitoye was a long way from contention - but he’s started the season really well and appears to have worked on his defence, which was the big gap in his skill set. If he keeps playing that way when the RWC players are back, he could well get a look in.

Overall, there is a strong and pretty young England squad with lots of players who are there for the long haul. However, historically players have tended to pick up injuries (or go for repairs) after the RWC, which may open the door to new talent.

Well he missed another straight forward one on one tackle in the build up to their try on Saturday. I'm far from convinced he can defend well at this level, never mind at test level.

Unless Farrell leaves for France as a result of his upcoming pay cut .....

I think DC goes 'off script' too much for Eddie Jones ( much like Cipriani ) - apparently  Spencer trained with England right up to the day they left so he knows all the calls and moves .

If all goes to plan , he could get on for 10 mins and win a medal !

FWIW I think Zac Mercer will be ahead of Dombrant. Can't really see Smith yet either as too many other options and Gabs needs to sort his Defence.

Does anyone know why Lawday has been preferred to Dombrandt so far this season? It’s nothing against Lawday, but I really think Dombrandt is a special player who could be very good indeed.

The fact that he was in the wider training squad ahead of the RWC suggests he’s highly regarded, but he’s unlikely to get a look in for England if he’s not starting for us.

Marchant will surely be in the squad post RWC. I think he has the goods to be a top, top test player and he’s already done well in his England appearances so far.

Smith has a decent chance. He’s fighting it out with Joe Simmonds to be 3rd choice fly half given that Cipriani’s not really in favour and is not getting any younger.

I understand why PG started him against Exeter , extra motivation for him .

Dombrandt when he came on in both games had serious strapping on his legs so I wonder if has had a knock / strain and is being eased back in ?

Maybe that's a question for Gustard at the Quinssa meeting tomorrow
