Podcast with the Quins boys
« on: Thursday 11-Jul-2019, 14:51* »
Afternoon All,

Three of us Quins fans have created a podcast on which we were lucky enough to have been joined by Aaron Morris and James Lang for episode one.

In the first episode we talk about Agen away, as well as a day in the life of a quins player, before testing our guest knowledge on their specialist subjects.

At least one of us were present at 23 games last year, which is more than our guests played in! So we will probably have met a lot of you on our travels. We’ve got a few more quins boys in the pipeline so if you have anything you’d like to ask we can pose your questions in the coming weeks. We're also happy to take advice on the pod, we're working on improving the sound quality, but are definitely open to suggestions on content.

Titled 'Ven Fitness - The Podcast' - Ven Fitness was started as a satirical fitness account on Instagram – but has become very Harlequins focussed over the season, and that's going to be the future plan of the pod.

Have a listen, and please let us know what you think!

Cheers! Nathan Earle will be joining us for episode 2, so if anyone has any questions for him let me know.

We'll be discussing his comeback from injury, as well as that last minute try away at Bath!

We've invested in some new tech as well so expect better sound quality.

Had a listen to the 1st pod, very enjoyable , some good questions to Lang and Morris not just about playing but the nights out etc, would like a few questions about Quins culture and why Earl left sarries for us if you could squeeze them in.

Episode 2 is out now! Nathan Earle talking about how he got into rugby, his move from Sarries to Quins and his recovery from injury. Looks like he's aiming for a Feb / March return, so fingers crossed he may still play a role in the closing matches of the season.

Let us know if you have any feedback  :) Listening links below:

I listened to the first and part way through the second. I still can't work out the weird name - and it stops it being searched for as a rugby podcast from what I can see. I am enjoying the podcasts. The players come across well, it flows well.

Listened too the 2nd pod, good crack hoping for more.
Agreed name could do with changing and are you using one mic for the group as i found the last episode very quiet even when at max volume on my phone.

Get a Blue Yeti mic, or similar if that’s not what you’re using...

Morning guys, thanks for the feedback. The Ven name is a bit of a heritage thing, and is how all the quins boys know us, so it's a difficult name to change. The fact that it's a bit informal definitely helps us get access to them. It also allows us not to pigeonhole ourselves to rugby. Even though we will primarily be a Quins podcast, we've also got Netball, Athletics and Football guests lined up, to give a fresh view on what it's like to be a professional athlete. We appreciate your comments however, and will try and work out a better way of categorising the pods, making them easier to find.

With the mics, we've gone from one group mic in the first episode, to 3 xlr mics for 4 people in the 2nd. We're using a mixer and a mac, which we think is a lot better, but is also a steep learning curve for us with no background in audio recording. We're hoping the audio quality will improve with more practice, but if any of you have experience in this area, please let us know if you have any tips!
