What I took from that was that Plan "A" was not working so, rather late in the day, lets change everything around.

God I hope he is right....

What I took from that is that he has not watched Brown much during the last season, if he thinks our all time top try scorer is not an attacking fullback.

Stuart Barnes and Owen Slot named their starting XVs for the world cup and neither had Daly at 15. Slot had Watson, with Daly at 11 and Barnes didn't have Daly in his starting XV at all. He then went on to say in a later tweet that he thinks Daly's best position is wing. Defence not good enough for 13 or 15 he reckons.

Based on Saturday's game I think I'd rather see Watson at 15 too.

I must say, Barnes has been something of a revelation on twitter as far as I'm concerned. I've never much liked him as a commentator but I tend to agree with most of what he says on twitter (about rugby anyway, not about Corbyn and Bob Dylan)

Most number of offloads by any Premiership player last season and the most tries he’s scored in a season.

Thanks for watching Jones.

Also, Jones mentions needing players who can play an unstructured kicking game. We thrashed France because we kept kicking behind them and for some reason they never woke up to it. It didn't work against Wales in the 6 nations or on Saturday though. Like anything, when it becomes so predictable, it stops being effective

That can't be right, can it? I'm sure he used to score more in his early to mid 20s, although I can't be ar$ed to check.

It was in a Quins piece on the offy. So could well be wrong.

I see this game now where it is basically a mixture of NFL and soccer. You have got the first three phases that are basically all power and precision. Then you have the kick-return game which then becomes football.

So... why exactly don't you want Brown?

That seems to me to be a very strange set of reasoning. I haven't watched either of the warm ups, but from the highlights and bits I have seen and heard Daly has struggled (as per normal) under the high balls. If you expect that to be the normal pattern of play why don't you want the guy who's best under the high ball? Daly's not even the best English 15 at his club let alone in the country...... ::)

I'm hoping that we might see more of Watson at 15, but seems unlikely at this late stage (then again, so did Ludlam and Heinz).

I'd be very happy with a back three of May, Nowell, Watson and Daly on the bench, or Daly starting on the wing and Nowell on the bench

Watson has never convinced me in the games he's played for England yet.
I would agree that Daly seems to be ideal on the bench.
Nowell if fit has to be on the wing with May but I'd put Brown at 15, maybe someone will break and he'll get a call up in the end.

OK, so it's an explanation as to why he doesn't pick Brown, but it doesn't explain why he brings Brown into the training squad.

Rather than a defending full back he used to be, for want of a better term, a resetting full back.  I can remember Ben Kay saying that Brown was a forward's dream as he delivered the ball back to the forwards to reset the game.  Other full backs (in particular Goode) would seek out space but Brown would bring the ball back.  Things seem to have moved on, as the offloading stats suggest.

If he wants an attacking full back operating in unstructured play, then this gives credence to the Saracens fans' suspicion that Jones and Goode had a falling out at Saracens, as otherwise Goode would be in the frame.

Whatever, I'd rather have a defensive full back, be it Brown or someone else, than a weak-under-the-high-ball or a flappy-armed full back.

Daly has been played for a number of games how something like the last 10 or so games at Full back. The way Jones uses him, is as a second or third playmaker who also has the gas and vision to take his matches on and a world class outside break.

Watson is good at the return but he is not a playmaker and does not offer the world class cannon like left boot.

Daly was good under the high ball in Cardiff.

I just don't see Jones dropping him he has invested too much and he thinks Daly is that type of player who can conjour anything from nothing eg a 60m+/penelty or a drop goal.

I think the back three will be 15 Daly 14. No we'll / mcConahie and 11. May.

I've never considered Daly a playmaker. His outside break can indeed be great, when playing 13. I disagree he was good under the high ball.

Sadly I agree that Jones isn't likely to drop or move him so might as well get used to it.

He has a better kicking game than Watson but a worse defensive game, including catching.
