It was clear when Mike wasn't picked for the Ireland game (a decision at the time I thought was wrong) that he wasn't Eddie's first choice anymore and even the most myopic Quins fan has to admit Daly has acquitted himself well so far in the 6N.

You can be critical of Daly without being myopic. He's awful at try to catch contested kicks. I think he's managed one in the tournament so far - every other time he's either gotten nowhere near it, knocked it on, dropped it cold, or been beaten to the ball by the other team. He's very, very poor in the air.

Last match we saw some more of him in attack which was good to see, as he's been quiet at 15.

As a great fan of MB I always watch Daly with a very critical eye. Cannot argue with his attacking talents but it does not necessarily follow that he should be playing at fullback. He has been protected by his team mates to date with the high ball, I have a horrible feeling that he will cost the England dearly one of these days for his defensive frailties, hope I am wrong.

Brown in the 33-man squad for Scotland and released again when filtering down to 25-man. Ditto Dan Cole of Leicester. I have no idea why previous posts suggesting Jones is mismanaging them have been flagged as dumb.

Brown, who Jones had previously defended to the hilt from a baying press, is clearly currently 5th pick in the back three, 6th when Anthony Watson returns to fitness. Eddie's been clear on the new pecking order in recent press conferences lauding Daly as a 15 and by the fact either Nowell or Ashton make the bench ahead of Brown, which means he is being kept about in training squads as an experienced backup to the new crop of starters.

He's not in serious contention for a World Cup place if Watson returns to fitness for it, at this rate. We don't know what Jones is saying to him privately about his WC appearance chances, but you can only hope he's not making false promises.

I'm not sure when Brown is currently signed onto for Quins - ditto Cole for Leicester- but if these players in the twilight of their careers sign on to remain in England next season on the basis of a World Cup spot that will never realistically materialise, turning down larger Japanese or French club paychecks in the process, then Eddie Jones will have messed them about by keeping them in the periphery, rather than allowing them to announce their international retirement and determine their own futures on their own terms.

I’m just impressed they’re so confident about the Wales game they’ve got the squad together for Scotland already.

How is he preventing them from doing so now, if they wish?

He's not preventing them and I never suggested he's got them in some sort of international jail despite your implication. The point is contract negotiations happen around this time of the year and if he's not honest with them or overly promises the sort of involvement they can expect at the World Cup, then he may sway their judgement about where to sign on their financial futures.

Anyone on the fringe of the squad right now would be a bit hasty to sign up to anything that might affect their chance of a call up - injuries happen frequently and Brownie (and others, Cole too) could be back in the starting side pretty quickly.

I think the implication was yours, by stating "rather than allowing them to announce their international retirement and determine their own futures on their own terms"

You know, suggest that he wasn't allowing them to announce their retirement.
