JONES NAMES SQUAD FOR SIX NATIONS TRAINING CAMP

Eddie Jones has named a 36-player England squad to begin preparations for the Guinness Six Nations.
England Senior Men
The squad will meet in Brighton on Monday 24 January for a five-day training camp, then regroup at Pennyhill Park, ahead of their first game against Scotland at Murrayfield, on Saturday 5 February.

Ben Youngs could become England men’s most-capped player during the tournament.  The scrum-half, who made his debut in 2010, is two caps behind Jason Leonard (114).  In other potential milestones, Kyle Sinckler is in line to earn cap 50.

There are six new faces in the squad: Orlando Bailey, Alfie Barbeary, Ollie Chessum, Tommy Freeman, Ollie Hassell-Collins and Luke Northmore.

"Selecting this squad has been a difficult task, we’ve got plenty of good young players coming through and some of our more experienced are rediscovering their best form," said Jones.

"We think this 36 for the first training week reflects a good balance of that experience and up-and-coming talent. In Brighton we’ll focus on getting the fundamentals of our game in play right and developing the cohesion of the team.

"The Six Nations is going to be the most competitive we’ve ever seen. All the countries performed well in the autumn, so we need to be at our best and improve with every game."

Owen Farrell will captain England, while team vice captains will be announced ahead of each match. Following the Scotland game, England will travel to Rome to play Italy on Sunday 13 February.

Jones’ side will then return to England for home games at Twickenham Stadium against Wales (Saturday 26 February) and Ireland (Saturday 12 March), before finishing the campaign in Paris against France on Saturday 19 March.

All of England’s matches are on ITV, except for Scotland v England which is on BBC.  Radio commentary for all games will be on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Congratulations to Marchant, Dommers, Smith and Marler. But most particularly to Northmore! Good for him! He deserves it!

Meanwhile, I am tugging at my collar and gulping about losing them all over the next two months!!!

Indeed great news for them all and for the club that has allowed them to perform to their potential. However that’s a lot of gaps to fill in our team.

Yeah, delighted for Northmore, the others I expected. Feel a bit for Collier though.

Complete opposite for Youngs & Farrell though, very sad.

Interesting squad, I like Northmore geeting a chance to impress, Barbery looks like a defo impact player. Someone that can change a game. Chessum has impressed me this season, when I have seen him play. He is a unit, 6'8, 19stone and can cover, lock, blindside and no8.

Happy for Ollie Hasselcolins, he is a class player and might be given his head in the six nations. With Farrel at 12 and Slade at 13, we need some strict runners and he is a big winger.

Great to see the Quins boys is there.

I'm pleased we are left with a backline that includes:

9 Care
10 Allen / Edwards
11 Murely
12 Esterhauizen
13 Jones / Aunawu
14 Lyangh
15 Green / David

You are right about Collier. He has been so good all season.

Farrell? Good grief.

We all now know that Farrell is the golden child. Jones sees him as a Richie McCaw (type) figurehead. The one that leads from the front and the one that would be first over the top of the trenches. He is going to the World Cup Squad even if he had one leg. There is no way, unless he is out for months that Jones will not have in the squads and in the team.

OHC ahead of Lynagh this week.  The merry-go-round continues.

I'm pleased h is staying with us. We have lost four very good players to England. Another bavn there player would be hard to take.

Lynaghs time will come. He just needs to jeep performing. Hopefully Green will get a rest and Lynagh gets a run a full back.

A decent squad selection on paper, albeit with one or two head scratchers. Farrell over Ford is a sin and I've genuinely no idea how Ewels gets near the squad.

You can just imagine the same old tactic with Farrell at 10 switching to 12 when Smith is brought on, just hope that I am totally wrong and EJ has a bit more vision.

Always hated this tactic.

If Farrell is at 10 we never bring 12 cover, so even if he has a shocker he has to move out to 12 rather than be dragged off.

I just want Randell, Smith, Atkinson, Slade

So much danger in there and Atkinson can take it too the line when needed.
