Well it’s not really is it, you don’t make a conscious decision to be intimidated by something.

I think you missed the point.

Well I can't speak for QP but I suspect he was suggesting that there's no reason why any of the England team, or any other international team, should feel intimidated by a bit of theatre.

I think it's as much the fact the ABs get to do the folk dance to psych themselves up, rather than other players being intimidated. However their preparations are a bit flat if they are obliged by world rugby rules to stand still and watch.

I always liked David Campese's response when asked why he carried on kicking practice while the Haka was going on:
"Mate", he said to the interviewer, "you seen one Haka, you seen them all!"

Precisely BB!

DOK, the opposing players also get to psych themselves up facing it, should they choose.

Yeah. Standing still with your arms linked round two other people is a well known recipe for psyching yourself up. Unlike performing a haka, which is known for it's calming effect.

Personally I wish that the ABs were made to do the Haka *before* the anthems are played. That way they get their cultural bit but it's placed where it should be. I'd also scrap the WR ruling that opposition teams have to "respect" it by standing a fixed distance away, unable to respond, etc.  If teams want to respond, let 'em.

Totally agree. It's absurd. We have to do our dance and you have to watch us do it. I really wish teams would just sing their anthem, respect the NZ anthem and then go off and warm up with absolutely no regard for the haka.

The whole Haka thing is now well past its sell by date, I well remember the days when The All Blacks would visit these islands for a proper tour and the whole thing was something special.

It sounds like you have no idea how people can psych themselves up.

Thanks FF, made me grin! A few of the players clearly missed out on the choreography sessions. When I first watched them (late 70s), I enjoyed it because they were rare, now they're not. To me, time to ditch them.
