So even if you average the entitlement prices only -- which therefore is way below genuine total revenue, especially as HQ is dominated by premium and Cat 1 seats -- that's more than £11 million -- and that is WAY out.

My point wasn't about the revenue calculation, was just pointing out (as CQ did better with his chart) that there were different prices for the same seat depending on when it is sold, which I find scandalous.

The also messed around with the price banding (there used to more and they were much fairer, starting at £40).

I wasn't commenting on your post Cookie, just doing the maths.

But yes, they are now really pushing the boundaries.

DOK you used to always say that you get similar entertainment for the money when it was £70 for the top tickets -- what about now? Can't think of many things I'm asked to pay £150-190 to go and see that lasts 80 mins.

Embarrassing that Cat 4 has the fewest tickets. Even fewer than Premium. This really is unacceptable.

Worth noting that the Middlesex CB voted against these changes, as I recall. But it worked for the majority of the rest of the English clubs as, rather than returning their tickets, they could make money out of them.

RFU would argue that they are giving preferential treatment to people that are involved in Grass Roots Rugby . They identify those as being Members of Clubs - hence the Entitlement price . They also have within the Entitlement prices Junior Tickets for U15 's at £15 each with Limited numbers at Cat A , but unlimited for B and C .

However , each Club has an allocation and once that has been taken, if you can purchase more tickets they are at the Standard price  . I think the same applies for 1st XV they have an allocation and once used , any extras are at the higher price

This system suits many Clubs away from London , who , if they return tickets as unsold they get the difference between the 2 ticket prices if sold on ( most in London and the Home Counties presumably use the full allocation , as its easy to get to Twickenham)

My understanding is that Corporate is a separate profit centre that just buy tickets at the Standard price .

Either way the prices have got to the point which make a day at the rugby financially prohibitive for many.

They can argue that all they like. Ultimately the same people end up buying them (i.e. more likely fans from the south), but they end up paying a premium to do so. And this is to the benefit of northern clubs with bigger catchment areas and therefore more tickets (initial allocations are based on members, sides run, women's teams, referees, colts etc).

And, unless it's changed, the only concessions for tickets are for the smaller games (i.e. Fiji, Japan, Samoa and alike). It's been a long time since even Italy had junior tickets available.

There were pairs available for SA the day before the match as well.

I think they've finally out-priced everyone apart from rich people and corporate accounts who don't care if they're watching rugby, rowing or the opera.

Although you can get tickets at the Royal Opera House for £50....

You can actually get standing only student tickets for about a tenner at ROH!

I agree with your comments , and certainly don't defend the high ticket prices , I just buy tickets for my Club Members .

The algorithm you refer to which is used to establish club requirements , is also effected by how many tickets a Club Purchases each year , so those in the North who continually don't buy them and just rake the difference have their allocation reduced . I know Clubs in Surrey leagues where that has happened .

With regard to Concessions ( ie £15 Junior Tickets ) for next years 6N I had only 2 for France and Scotland and 4 for Italy  , but as you say unlimited for minor games ( eg I took 50 for 2 age groups for Japan )

Hmmm- gives an interesting insight into what the pecking order is for Twickenham fans. NZ, then 4N, then SA and Oz, then Italy, Japan.

And now there are tickets on general sale. Might make the RFU think again.

Yep -- day before the first meeting of the two sides at Twickenham in four years and you can get seats less than 24 hours before kick off. It's not good.

If you want to go to the Australia game you're laughing as well -- they've just dumped hundreds of seats for sale to First Xv members. You can sit in the lower tier on halfway line happily without about 20 friends if you need that many.

Just had a look at England v New Zealand. It seems 1% or less in the various sections. One seat only in many sections.

Not exactly a mis-calculation by HQ.

I've been actively trying to go to as many England games as possible for the past 8 years. I cannot ever remember being able to buy seats the day before a top level match - let alone the All Blacks.

Other than slightly cheaper tickets, it makes a mockery of being in a rugby club, or joining the England supporters club or any of it -- they're flogging off seats to anyone who'll buy them in the two days before the match. Hardly a great advert.

Well, I just bought a pair and there were other pairs available. In the past, doing tickets at my old club, they'd dump all their singles on us, which we'd happily take. Given the tickets are ludicrously expensive, I doubt I would have done that this time, if they decided not to hawk them out to all and sundry, that is.

I'm with Blucherquin. This is outstandingly poor by the RFU.
