Well, I just bought a pair and there were other pairs available. In the past, doing tickets at my old club, they'd dump all their singles on us, which we'd happily take. Given the tickets are ludicrously expensive, I doubt I would have done that this time, if they decided not to hawk them out to all and sundry, that is.

I'm with Blucherquin. This is outstandingly poor by the RFU.

I have neither the time nor energy to scamper round the seat availability map on the website, but I guess there can't be more than say, fifty seats in total that are available.

If they have had some tickets returned, what are they supposed to do with those tickets?

Sorry, but to call it outstandingly poor is simply nonsense.

Outrageous pricing.  Normal supporters have been priced out by the RFU for a number of years. It  just seems to get worse each year.

Well, I explained what used to happen. And this situation (unsold seats the day before a game) never used to happen. That's the point we're making. Its a consequence of the RFU whoring English rugby to those willing to pay what they want to charge.

Ok Dazza. Only single tickets by 930pm the night before England’s first game against the ABs at HQ in 4 years. That’s normal.

I can quite clearly hear the sound of an axe being ground.

My estimate is that there could still be up to 200 single tickets available.

Red-face time for the RFU indeed!

There are 55 tickets available - all singles. Hardly red face time. The RFU has generated massive revenue. To sell >99% of tickets hardly suggests a disaster

Scandal breaking!

There are 0.006658% unsold seats in the stadium.

Oh woe! Heads must roll for this.

I really didn't think I needed a sarcasm emoji for that post.

Why does everything have to be so extreme?

We've highlighted how tickets are distributed and the amounts charged, which I find pretty unpalatable.

I also explained how it worked before and why tickets for NZ would never be available the morning of a game.

I think it's a sad change of affairs and the RFU should be ashamed. But that's it, really. Not calling for sackings or anything like that. Just very disappointed that a fair and respectful system has been replaced by an exploitative one.

From what I understand attendance was 82,149 so 351 short. RFU will feel the price is justified because if they went cheaper, they may have sold every single seat but not made as much money. They know New Zealand is the match of the autumn series and people will pay a lot for it. Today's attendance will not change that mindset.

Really unclear how this ended up as a discussion about selling out the stadium or not.

The RFU makes tickets available to “grass roots” via clubs (that I’m not a member of) and ballots for places like Quins, England Supporters Club and residents ballot (that I am). It’s the basis of the entire way they run rugby.

It has always been pretty much impossible to go to games otherwise.

This autumn, something has happened that means hundreds of seats have been released for the most high profile games the RFU has to offer.

The SA game, got multiple offers of tickets from Quins and RFU all the way to game day - and in the end they went on general sale.

ABs, again lots of tickets made available at to England supporters club members despite being told how high demand was and that the ballot we were all in would be limited - this has never happened before for a game of this level.

There are currently hundreds of seats available also for Australia in almost every block, including lower tier halfway line. This again has never happened before.

So why could this be? Price could be the answer, as I was suggesting. It could be something else if course.

The RFU says tickets are for the “rugby family” that’s why it’s so hard for most people (including me despite vast effort) to go to England games other than v Samoa or Barbarians or whatever.

Now they are putting tickets on general sale the day before the biggest match at HQ in 4 years (arguably) having not found any “rugby family” to buy those seats.

Of course people will buy them if they’re offered for general sale.

My question is how these two things are at all compatible.

The “rugby family” didn’t want the tickets - in numbers that in eight years of trying to get tickets via all these methods - I and a lot of other people - have never seen before.

Why bother being a member of the England supporters club for “access” to tickets if I just need to be a bit richer and wait until they’re dumped on the website?

The RFU flogging off seats at the last minute to anyone who will buy them is not proof that everything is rosy, except for them financially.

Which is fine - but totally at odds with their stated ticket policy.
