Back in the old days it was quite good when a fight broke out the PA played Give peace a Chance.

However that was when humour was allowed and now we should all clutch our pearls and tut from our safe space that violence has no place in the game, bad example to children, would be sent to prison if it happened off the pitch etc. etc

Used to like “ Goodbye” for a yellow card, but again stopped so as not to offend

I didn't find the music for fights, yellow cards, etc offensive, just a bit lame. Especially as we obviously only did it for the away team. Made us look a bit silly when we lost. It's the sort of thing people would hammer sarries for, especially the music when the other team ran on, like coronation street, brand new harvester

Having said that, those tunes beat "riiiise, riiiise, riiiiiiise"

Apparently the “alcohol free”’rule was announced after tickets had been bought. While this is a good idea it was badly implemented.

Yes, fix the product on the pitch and the rest will begin to look after itself. I think the big game production is far slicker but Quins as a club lends itself to colour and razzmatazz so it all feels a lot less forced. You’re also in the position that England don’t need to try to sell out Twickenham whereas Quins do.

One thing is for sure, you’ll not be able to please everyone and one person’s joy is another’s nightmare.

Was at  Brentford game when at the end they played Hey Jude (which is a song I detest) and some hideous rap song and incredible loud levels.
Fans were not cheering their team but singing along - just had nothing to do with sport
It was impossible to chat to my mates just behind me
When  I go to sport I want to enjoy the atmosphere of live sport otherwise I amy as well sit at home and watch on TV or in the pub,  not listen to loud music which may not be my personal choice.
I assume that the people who decide that this is what punters desire are  youg kids who have done a marketing course and spend their life on a phone and cannot enjoy the moment.

I’m 55 and think it’s great. Drowns out the old farts boring on about the old days.

I think it is OK to have walk on music, be that Mighty Quin, the theme from Jaws or Smoke on the Water.
And acceptable to have a tune you play if you win.
But leave it at that.

There's no "I so so absolutely agree with you" button so I'm writing this. I can understand the music before the game, music at half time, music at full time. But what is the point of 30 seconds of some random track just because play has stopped briefly?
In the old days, playing "these boots were made for walking" as the opposition picked up a yellow card or "all we are saying is give peace a chance" as a fight broke out (I use the word loosely), that was amusing. But are the crowd getting so restless after a minute of no play that someone has to say "turn on the music before they turn on us!"?

During the 2023 RWC the ball was in play for an average of 34 mins 18 secs. That leaves 45 minutes plus 10-20 minutes when the clock is stopped.

That's an awful lot of dead time.

Perhaps spectators, especially newcomers, just get bored in the gaps.

I appreciate that BB, but I'm saying the slices of time are what annoys me. Yes, tell me there's 55 minutes of dead time to fill, play the music. It's why I said I have no trouble with them filling half time with music. And yes, if it looks like being a long break, player down, doctors clustered round, cart called on the pitch - play some music (though I don't understand why).

But 30 seconds? Then some rugby. Then another 60 seconds (of a different track). Then some rugby....Then a break in play with no music. Then some rugby...  I admit, I'm the first to buy into Mark Evan's view we're in the entertainment business. And we are, and we do and we're very good at it. I just think music at practically every break in play is over the top.

But the stadiums seem to be so afraid that this won’t happen

Can remember at Stade when we had around a thousand singing “ Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner, and the French responding with "La Marseillaise“ just brilliant
Or Sale away when the Sale owner bought a round of drinks after a Friday night game and said we where the loudest away support they had in years
Listen to the noise at Cardiff recently, no music interpreted the atmosphere

Well, I'm not really sure how nothing happening is conducive to creating an atmosphere.

Notable that your 3 examples are all away. Not sure France and Wales count as they have a different attitude. Sale away and, what, 30? of you being the loudest away support they'd had for years? Sadly I can believe that. 😁

I'm sure you've been at the Stoop on a miserable day watching a grim game on many an occasion; remember the atmosphere then?

Anyway, it's not me you need to argue with as I'm not interested in wall to wall music at rugby, as I said above.

Sorry thought you mentioned dead ball time and hence the music was needed

Yep been at some dire games at the Stoop and further afield, and doubt music would make them any better, so both agree then
