Fantastic performance
« on: Sunday 26-Jan-2020, 19:20* »
What a brilliant performance. So much aggression from the forwards and lasike, real flair and Guile from Smith.

It does show how much better we are as a group when the forwards secure quick ball.

Danny back to his best, focusing on the ball, rather than wafting his hands around as he has for a season or two.

Also important to recognise the impact of Lewies and Symmons. Reminds me of Kohn and Robson - one offering grunt and aggression, one a line out specialist.

Lasike has grown so much this year. I feel we have to give him another year. He pulls defenders towards him and has begun to mix between the big bosh ball carrier role and some softer hands. I hate to hark back again to our championship team, but he’s got shades of Jordan turner hall.

Ellia is a revaluation this year. Long may it continue and hopefully his injury not too bad.

Been a tough season - but real hope offered today. Good job boys.

The only negative for me today was the injury to Elia. Hero status to his for trying to play on through it. Hopefully, not too bad

A really pleasing all round performance with good showings from 1-15. I don’t want to read too much more in to it that at this stage. We’re always up for it against Saracens and we need to keep it in mind that we beat a weakened side who must be affected by all the off-field distractions.

That said, I wonder whether Gustard has come to realise that we play better with a bit less structure and a bit more license to go for it. Losing the fear of relegation means we can really go for it and that suits us so much better than trying to implement a Saracens-lite style which hasn’t really worked.

As bad as the injuries have been, I suspect the likes of Lasike would have had less chance to shine.

I agree with Zandini that Symons and Lewies are developing in to a good pairing.

Can't think of any poor performances from this game, everyone seemed to step up.
In a selfish way I hope EJ doesnt bring our best players into the England 6N squad if they can carry this form forwards.

The shackles are off now we know we can’t be relegated. I think before that is the case the squad were “scared” to play the more expansive style of games we’ve seen in the last few games.

I suspect Dombrandt will still get a chance this 6n as you can’t ignore his form and I imagine if there’s any injuries in the back row he will be called up. Even if EJ thinks he’s “not fit” for test rugby which I think I nonsense he will still be great coming off the bench.

Apologies for the outburst of nice comments

One of the best games for 10 years, incredible atmosphere and the first two tries were best of the season. Unbelievable COYQ

It was a great spectacle and we took most of the chances we made from broken field play and really played how you want to see us play.

But. Salaries didn’t look up for it from the 5th minute onwards. Their body language was illuminating. It may have been the side that were playing very well at the beginning of the season, but they didn’t seem to want to be here.

I loved our endeavour and the slick handling in very wet conditions. Glad for 5 points, but unless we can back that up in next Premiership game (LI?), then it won’t be as good as hopefully it will prove to be. LI will be a handful, but I hope we’ll have the same vim next time out. All to play for.

Next up, Exe in the B team cup. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going.

COYQ!

Thoroughly enjoyed being at Stoop today, what an all round team performance.
Surprised to see so few Sarries supporters, also disappointed to hear boos at both Sarries scores.

Only downside for me was the realisation I have to be up at 0500 for my commute to work tomorrow.

Two thoughts from me:

- We really wanted to beat that team today. I hope that's the kind of attitude we can bring each week. And I hope that's the reaction they get every week from whichever premiership team they play.

- A lot has been said by Saracens about how tight they are as a group. If that was an under strength team (as their supporters say) I'd be really annoyed as a young player to be thrown into a match like that while the stars hid away waiting for the glory games.

I'm very concerned about this outpouring of positive statements about the performance yesterday. It's not normal on here and very unnerving!!!

A great day at the Stoop and good atmosphere all round. To see the great one come off pumping his fists at the crowd just shows what that meant to him.

Let's hope we can keep it going (he says adding a familiar note of CAW pessimism to proceedings)

Lasike is not doing bad for our forth choice inside centre.

Agree on the bolded point.

Re. The second point, don’t forget that a lot of ‘stars’ were away as a result of international call-ups for the 6 Nations (hence no Sinckler and Marler for us).

Sarries would have been missing Farrell, George, Mako, Kruis and Earl to England, Taylor and Maitland to Scotland and Tompkins to Wales. Barritt was a late injury withdrawal.

I think they’ll be putting our ‘mix and match’ squads for the rest of the season, but the 6 Nations call-ups and injuries would have limited them this week.
