Fissler TRP
« on: Sunday 12-May-2019, 06:51* »
According to Fissler ‘we have opened talks’ with Quade Cooper as our new marquee player now Kev is retired. Also says we are talking to Brock James which is a bit strange.

Nick Cain in TRP  says Danny was dropped because he did not stick to the script v Japan and Eddie lost patience. Now Ben You gs won’t play again this season so he may be forced to bring him back.

Not quite sure how I feel about Cooper. Undoubtedly an incredibly talented player but a bit of a dick as well. Not sure he'll have the impact NEV had but he will score points and terrorise defences. Not sure he'll be too focused on helping Marcus develop.

So Jones's tactics are incredibly slow ball at the breakdown then!!!

Cooper is still box office.  Him alongside Care, Salli, Marchant would be excellent. Confirms the Cat is off.  Id hope Gustard is also in talks with a lock

Presumably would be one year contracts as both are getting on. Problem is a bit late to be signing marquee unless someone becomes available after World Cup

I think Cooper could get longer than a year, he is only 31!!.  James def only the one.  It will be either or of course, not both.

Agreed. He could be very exciting. However, I do have some reservations ...

To Banstead Quins’ point, I’m not sure how helpful Cooper would be for Marcus and if it’s a choice between Cooper or a marquee lock, I’d go with the latter every single time.

I think Brock James could be a 1 year cover only, certainly wouldn't be upset seeing him at Quins. Cooper would certainly be an exciting addition as long as the lights if London don't distract to much, I would hope that this is in addition to Snyman and not instead of.

In fairness to Cooper, theres nothing to suggest he would have a negative impact on Smiths development.  No more than us bringing Cipriani in would.  There might be reservations about him but his ability as a player would win it for me.  I actually think he would be great for Smith (and Lang) to learn from.  Training with a bloke like that every day.

Re the lock, Im going to stick my neck out and say that with the above rumour, The Cat is def off. Add to that the rumour off Visser also going,  we will bring in a lock to replace Horwill.  Despite the announcements the club made of the incomings, I think  there were always going to be one or two more.

Visser has a year on his contract and would need to be bought out to go. Can’t see anyone coming in for him.

I would love to see Quade in the quarters, he’s electric and makes things happen, he’s a better version of Cipriani in my opinion.

Having him rotating with Smith in the back line with DC, Saili/Taps & Marchant.. that would be lethal.

I just flicked through insta because I remembered seeing Taps & Quade in a few personal photos at weddings together, maybe they want to be reunited from the time they spent at the Reds together  😁

Quade replacing the Cat
Snyman replacing Horwill
Now that’s what dreams are made of

Or it could be that his contract is cancelled by mutual agreement (possible scenario with The cat also).  That would seem the best for all involved.  The player(s) get to go where they like and actually play (plus maybe get themselves a longer contract) and the club gets (I imagine) a decent chunk of cap space to spend. Winners all round.

I appreciate there is a few ifs there though

Cipriani is much better than Cooper - Cooper's a mess. He's more like the old Cipriani who tries to do the flash stuff and abandons the basics.

I'd be really worried if we were spending big money on such a flawed player.

I wonder if the club had known Horwill was going to call it a day earlier, we would have been in for Ciprani again (and maybe had a chance) before he signed his new Gloucs deal??  Or another way to look at it, had we been able to agree to letting the Cat and/or Visser go we could have been able to afford him (I realise the talk of them going is currently still rumour and nothing more).

It’s a no from me on Quade Cooper, he’sway too flaky. 38yr old Brock James is a bit left field too... I can kind of see the logic but I’d be surprised if either of the rumours were true.
