I watch a fair bit of super rugby. Cooper is back innform, looking fit and motivated. He has been good for the Rebels this season so far.

He would be a good addition, especially if Smith starts to get England call ups after the world.cup has finished..

I also watch Super Rugby. His defence is worse than ever and he's still a poor goalkicker. Super Rugby is a much looser game than Premiership/European stuff too.

Yeah for me I just don't see Cooper being any use on a cold Friday night up in Sale or in a Force 9 down at Sandy Park.

I wonder if the club had known Horwill was going to call it a day earlier, we would have been in for Ciprani again (and maybe had a chance) before he signed his new Gloucs deal??  Or another way to look at it, had we been able to agree to letting the Cat and/or Visser go we could have been able to afford him (I realise the talk of them going is currently still rumour and nothing more).

cips can't be a marquee can he?

Correct, although a little re jig of current contracts would easily sort that out (Move one of our big earners into the marquee spot vacted and give Cips that money).  By all accounts, the rumour is/was that his Gloucs deal is not as eye watering as some expect it to be.

The Marquee to replace Horwill has to be a player signed from abroad (assuming that Horwill was still a marquee player)

One of our signings must be from abroad, surely?

Yes, bit not paid enough to clear enough cap to pay a big earner.

So one of your Marquee signings has to be from abroad???  Did not appreciate that.  I just thought it was two players, outside of the cap and they could not be signed from another Prem Team.

Signed from abroad = outside the prem,  assuming a marquee player is unlikely to come from the championship

Not correct. It can be an existing player who has played for the club for 2 years:

(c) A Club shall only be entitled to nominate a Player as their first Excluded Player who:
(i) has been a Player of the Club for at least two full Salary Cap Years prior to the Salary Cap Year in which he is nominated as the Excluded Player; or
(ii) has not been a Player of any Club during the previous Salary Cap Year, other than a Player who (A) qualifies under Regulation 3.3(c)(i) or (B) has only been a Player of a Club during the previous Salary Cap Year as a replacement for an Injured Player following dispensation under Regulation 5; or
(iii) has been a Player (but not an Excluded Player) for the Club in the previous Salary Cap Year and was not a Player for any other Club for at least one Salary Cap Year immediately prior to joining the Club.

(d) A Club shall only be entitled to nominate a Player as a second Excluded Player who:
(i) has not been a Player of any Club during the previous Salary Cap Year; or
(ii) was that Club’s second Excluded Player in the previous Salary Cap Year.

That’s the rules for the 1st marquee player, the 2nd marquee player must either be the same as the year before or have not played in the premiership in the previous year.

That’s what I said!

Rules for both are in my post.
