Gallagher Premiership 2018/19 Preview
« on: Sunday 26-Aug-2018, 15:10* »
by Rugbypass

So the prediction is
  • Exeter
  • Saracens
  • Wasps
  • Gloucester
  • Leicester
  • Newcastle
  • Sale
  • Bath
  • Northampton
  • Harlequins
  • Bristol
  • Worcester

I think we can do better than that.
Last season we just fell apart in the second half.
This season I'm expecting better defence, better set piece.
So if we work hard all season, I think mid table 5-8 is possible.
I expect Exeter, Saracens, Wasps, Leicester and maybe Newcastle to be above us.

I'd be happy with 6-8, ecstatic with anything above that, disappointed with anything below.

FWIW, The Rugby Paper and Sunday Times have both got Quins earmarked for 10th as well.

Yeah - being realistic I’m the same. We have to hope for an improvement on last season but the Premiership is becoming more and more competitive and, like last season, I wouldn’t expect there to be many points separating 6th and 10th.

Most, if not all of what I’ve seen from Gustard so far has been good and I’m optimistic he and the new coaching team can bring the direction and focus we need to improve. The challenge is that this clearly isn’t going to happen overnight and a bad start in the Premiership would be very difficult to recover from in terms of league position.

I’m predicting 5th. I think we’ll find our way in the latter part of the season

I am filled with doom, gloom, despondency and foreboding.

So just my usual  cheerful self, then?

Tenth or eleventh is my forecast.

Gussy's 3 year road plan.

Year 1. Avoid Relegation, have a bit of a Cup Run.

Year 2. Top 6, reach later stages of a Cup.

Year 3. Top 4 and a Trophy of some sort or very close.

I don't mind where we finish necessarily as long as we avoid relegation - I'd just like to see a side that appears to know what it's doing, has some heart and a recognisable game plan.

The league is so tight and there are already some sides on the up from last season, we need a complete rebuild, so have to be realistic. I could survive seeing us lose games at the Stoop if they're tight games between two competing sides.

I can't watch another season of capitulation against nothing in particular - several of the sides who turned us over didn't even have to play good rugby last year, they just had to not drop the ball and run at our defence.

I said 8th on another thread a few weeks back - I'll stick with it. Bit uninspiring, though. Oh well.

I will settle - if I have to - for winning all the home games and losing the away games.

Not that I want to, you understand.

Sadly I genuinely think we will go down, just do not think we have a strong squad, too many journeymen and too many who are sick notes

Can't see us being relegated. But I dint think that top 4 is even a vague hope! I think we will surprise many people. We have the squad for top 6,if the coaches can get them playing to their potential. I think realistically 8th is more likely. Wasps are going to be struggling without Gopperth IMHO.

Just don’t think anyone can see what’s coming out of the traps this season. The Gustard uplift could get us 6th (but no higher) or we continue on from last 2 years and without sufficient and proper investment and injuries we will quickly get into a relegation battle. Given a fairly easy first half of the season if we start poorly that relegation battle happens all too quick. Not sure we have the solidity in big adversity to drag ourselves out. Need a half decent start then we can look up not down.

I think we will end up mid table.  Im not expecting miracles and it will take time but I think once Gustard and the coaches have had the time we will see a different Quins.  Its going to be a disaster for someone though when they go down.  Has there been any update on the 5 year ring fencing??  Who ever does go down could really suffer

Based on no information whatsoever but I seem to recall Gopperth being selected on the bench a fair bit?
