Games I'd like to see again...
« on: Monday 13-Apr-2020, 09:44* »
No idea if this has a thread elsewhere, but... I was thinking about the games that Quins have been showing, and remembering epic games that I'd love to see again. So, if anyone at Quins is reading this:

The first game of the season when we were absolutely hammered by Wasps for the first half of the game. Then we turned it around and nicked it at the end. From memory, we started with G-Lowe on the wing and ot just didn't work. Late in the game Tom Guest came on and scored a charge down try. Nev also scored a try as  Tome Varndell tried to tackle him using an interesting "stroke your back as you go past" tackle technique.

I think it was at Twickenham, possibly a Double Header. The final scoreline was something like 45-41. I could do a bit of research, but that would spoil the fun.

It was. There were 12 of us, the usual rugby fans and a few of our football mates who wanted to see what the fuss about rugby was (They actually loved it and have been back regular on and off).  I said at HT if we won I would get a round in at the ground, then a round in at the pub (Rather than the usual whip).  Started jumping up and down when Nev slotted the kick, then the realisation set in!!

I seem to remember that the last game of the regular season when we won the premiership
v Tigers at the Stoop was a cracker.  I don't think we won it - It was close and may even have been a draw.

Going back even further...

The season we were relegated. Friday evening game against Sarries, led by Taine Randell. Nobody gave us a chance. Arrived a minute after kickoff to hear we'd already scored (second fastest Prem try ever, at that time). Queuing for a burger, a roar goes up - we'd scored again in about the third minute. We had the TBP by half time, and Sarries hadn't scored.

We won heavily, with Sarries eventually scoring. The marging could have been bigger though - Simon Keogh took the ball from a dropout, glided through numerous tackles, but got smashed so hard in the try area that he spilled the ball.

One of my team-mates at the time (a huge Sarries fan) had been boasting about how we'd be hammered, and was going to wind me up in the pub after the game. Oddly, he turned his phone off at some point before the final whistle, and skulked off home...

The game vs. Wasps in the Champions Cup a few years ago. We were well behind and went on to win it with tries from Chis and Elia amongst others.

The January 2016 game against Sarries, 1 point ahead they are heading ominously towards our line when Robshaw somehow gets his boot to the ball and Clifford picks it up and puts the burners on.

Think that's the game where Nick Easter broke Tom Croft's shoulder when Croft tried to get in the way of Easter's pick and go off the back of a 5m scrum.

Away to Bath a few years ago. We won. Minty was interviewed after the game and was asked if the gameplan had worked and he said something like "well we won didn't we".

The problem with re-watching these games is that we usually know who is going to win.

I think it would be really interesting to choose a season from a number of years ago  and just watch the games in order.  I'm sure that most of us would have difficulty remembering a game e.g. Glaws v Quins from the 2010/11 season.

One other option is to look for Quins U18 games on youtube - example this one (which I haven't watch yet)

That's not so different from watching them live.
