Just get such good feelings about the coming years every time he's interviewed - he definitely runs a good PR campaign!

Hopefully this bit is wide of the mark though:

Quins are known to be in the market for a winger after the long-term injury to Nathan Earle but the majority of their recruitment is thought to be done, with the headline arrivals Italy’s Michele Campagnaro and Argentina’s Martin Landajo.

If you compare our recruitment to that of Sale or Irish, the gulf is pretty huge. I'm of course aware that our squad already includes several internationals and so we had a bit of a headstart on Sale/Irish but I'd say Sale have easily leapfrogged us now in terms of quality across their squad with the recruitment they've done and whilst it all depends how Irish embed those new players + acclimatise to the Prem, I'd argue they have already hauled themselves into our league in terms of quality players too - and they're only just coming up!

With the recent (unexpected) departures, I would bet my mrs that we are going to sign more than a winger. (And if we dont I still luck in).

Re recruitment someone does that.He is so low key I’ve forgotten his name!I fully agree re Sale and Irish.I am not sure our squad is strong enough to be consistently top 4.Biggest worry is successors to Robshaw Brown and Care in the next 2/3 years

You're presumably thinking of Millard - but he administrates the thing, he doesn't choose the players (although he might have some input). Gussy and his coaches will be the guys scoping out the players they want, with the help of the scouting team. (Part of) Millard's job is to liaise with the agents and deliver the players that Gussy asks for.

I expect their replacements will be signed when they leave

He says the right things, lets hope the improvement continues.

I'd also think PG is being and sensible and not overly broadcasting the fact that we're out in the market for more players as a priority and we have the cash from 2 unexpected retirements available.

On the other hand, take a look at Saints recruitment.

Gussy is a top bloke. He says the right things and absolutely means them too. I  think he must be so gutted about just missing out, like we all are. What an achievement it could have been for him in his first year as the main man. I am pleased we have got him and really can't wait for next season! (Is the league really beginning in October?! Yikes!)

Interestingly, on Rugby Tonight they were talking about how Saints hadn't worried about their position in the league but just kept focusing on the way they played. I think we did the opposite. We became so focused on confirming fourth spot that we didn't know (collectively) how to see each game out. I know the wind did for Smith at Sandy Park and poor old Lang missed by 30 centimetres! However, I mean that in each game the team froze or were hindered by their expectation to confirm the semi-final spot. In two other cases, we were way better than Sale and were up by 6 v Saints in the dying minutes. Sarries were quality in the second half but we had played well and potentially had more to give.

Winning is a habit. That run from January to March was wonderful because we played with joy and without pressure. The away win at Bath will live long in my memory. Then, all of a sudden, that blooming Gloucester game had a lot riding on it and they went for it. We stumbled. Sigh.

The mentality is vastly better than last year but is going to be the main priority again for Gussy and his team. The players, coaches, skills, strength, ground, kit are all brilliant! We can chase a game we just need to keep working on the ability to close a game out. One of the hardest things to do consistently in sport.

Anyway, enjoy the summer boys. Well played.

Indeed. Let’s hope no-one has noticed.
