Harlequins 6N Ballot
« on: Monday 28-Oct-2019, 19:24* »
I know winning it is a forlorn hope, but can anyone remember when the club opens the ticket ballot for the six nations?

DOK you are quite correct describing it as a forlorn hope.

I would also describe it as an opaque and secretive.  There is no transparency to the process: how many applicants are in the ballot; how many tickets are available; how is the ballot conducted - who does it, who witnesses it for fairness; why are the full results of the allocation never published; does the full ticket allocation go into the ballot (are tickets hived off and allocated outside of the ballot).

I am sure the whole thing is conducted in a full and proper way.  However the 'ballot' is mentioned as a benefit of being a member in the season ticket pamphlet.  As a benefit, that has been promoted by the club and paid for in the increased subscription, I expect a much higher standard of disclosure.

I have 4 x Season Tickets and have applied to the ballot every year since 2007.  I have never been successful.

I can be confident that this year will be no different .... however I will give it a go.

A while back when Jon Salinger was still the Customer Manager, he told us that the club gets about 200 tickets for each game. Assuming that some will be allocated to the club staff, the remainder will then go into the ballot. Assuming maybe half the Members apply for tickets, a reasonable guess would be that there's 150-180 tickets to go between 5,000 members. Add in that each winner in the ballot can claim 2 tickets, then you can see why the odds of actually getting any tickets is low.

As for why they don't publish the results of the ballot, they can't as it would be a breach of Data regulations, revealing members names to others.

For £30, become a member of England's First XV (used to be England Rugby Supporters Club) I've had a number of international tickets through them.

I definitely recommend this as an alternative/secondary route. I've been a member of it for a few years & it was through that I was able to get my 2015 RWC tickets, as well as most of my England game tickets. I've only managed to get England tickets through the Quins ballot twice over the last 12 years.

I do not think we need names but how many did the club get, how many tickets went into the ballot and how many names were in the ballot. This could greatly help members understand the chance of getting a ticket is very low - or the club puts very few tickets into the ballot anyway.

This is how the RFU carves up their tickets

So assume half a stadium is 40,000 tickets.
Even just 100 clubs, schools and colleges means each will get 400, and I bet it's more than that. Of course not every club can offload their full allocation.

Cookie was saying his rugby club does well for international ticket applications, might be worth a punt.

No idea how many tickets a Prem Club gets , but I know that for 2020 6N a typical Surrey 1 Club gets about 40 tickets per home game , plus 4 per away game .

Yes many of the best tickets go to sponsors these days. Have had tickets from Dorking. Also had two from Quins for Calcutta Cup about 10 years ago!
