Finally retiring end of an era. Watch out podcasts and who will Joe spa with now?

Haskell is such a 'marmite' character , but  ive heard players say hes the guy in the dressing room that glues teams together .
For me the game is richer for the characters in it and personalities like Haskell are an important part of the enjoyment.
Not to mention that when at his best he was an impressive ball carrier and destructive tackler.
Shame to see him go .

Did I miss the episode in which Joe and Hask talk to camera face down on a massage bench?

Great character. Our sport needs more big personalities like Haskell.

I fear in the world of academies and players being media trained from aged 16, the Haskells of this world won't be replicated in future. And it's a big shame.

I think if you're a 'character' and a good enough player the 'Haskells' of this world will always be around. eg our own Joe Marler. No amount of media training will stop a 'Character' from shining through imho

Yeah I'm not too worried either - Ellis Genge being a younger example of a particularly interesting "character".

Fine player and a nice guy too. Best of luck to him, he's earned it.

I find him a bit cringeworthy when on TV/podcasts but credit to him for making the most of his rugby career - not many English players have taken the opportunity to play in 4 countries.

I know what you mean on the cringe side of things, Fursty. I've noticed there are some "rugby lads" mannerisms amongst some ex-players-turned-pundits that I just do not get the need for. It's not funny and it's really annoying and comes across weird and out of touch to anyone from a normal walk of life. The perfect example is Andy Goode, Jim Hamilton, Haskell on their podcasts. They all use the word "mate" as if it's a conjunction. I might put myself through an entire Rugby Pod episode and see how many "mates" I can count. It's hideous. And then, on top of that, the swearing. It all just feels utterly forced, unnecessary and juvenile. Like they're not comfortable just being themselves and that they're deliberately overinflating their personalities and going for absolute machismo, but falling far short and just sounding like prannies. I noticed Joe doing it on the... Joe podcast. At one point I was begging him to stop being dragged into it. He was nowhere near as bad as the guys above but what is it about those "pundits"? Would Ben Kay/Ugo be the same if they weren't regulated by TV guidelines/norms? I'd like to think not but who knows?!

Ugo uses 'mate' frequently, as does Care. It's odd because I use it myself yet it bothers me when these pundits do!

It's more about the tone though. With some it comes across more genuine - like part of their normal speech. Listen to Andy Goode feat. Jim Hamilton for 5 mins and you'll hear what I mean about them just sounding like schoolboys trying to impress each other at the back of the classroom. Just comes across as totally pathetic.

TBQ , I agree with you about Goode and Hamilton , but wouldn't put Haskell into the same category as them
I rarely bother with Rugby Pod , but House of Rugby with Alex Payne ,Haskell and Tindall is usually amusing and entertaining ( unless you don't like Haskell of course) - but like I said above hes a marmite character - I happen to like him.

Haskell has enough self awareness and ability to put himself down that his persona of being the mega bantersaurus is just the right side of annoying, but I can see why people would really dislike him.

I’m the same - Payne, Tindall and the Hask are good. Too much rubbish on the Rugby Pod. Danny, Ugo and Jones are good too.
