and now I know for sure

A bit stale news, I know. However I hadn't seen this piece in the Indie.

You can't not side with the guy really - and Diamond/Sale seem not to want a right to reply when these things happen - as evidenced by not sending in the legals. Which you could naturally surmise is a silent admission of "oh dear Steve, what have you got us into this time?" Diamond seems a loose cannon and a pretty vile one at that.

I'd say that the fact that a lot of the other journo's who were there are reporting this in a similar way that is more sympathetic to the individual reporter would put me on his side over Diamond. Diamond's not done himself any favours in my view.

I dont like bullies or bullying.  I'm neither saying it didnt happen or denying the way it is told but I disapprove of the use of the media in this way.
If Diamond had behaved that way there are other means available to deal with it rather than trial by newspaper.
It's not journalism it's trial by the press.

That's not how it unfolded. His behaviour was towards a newspaper journalist during a news conference for journalists. So it's not trial by anything. It's someone reporting what happened to them while they were doing their job reporting.

Also surely the whole point of the press? Journalists are often the only reason people get caught out for what they've done. This rides the back of the #MeToo wave and whether you like every aspect of that movement or not, it's definitely turned the tide in the western world in terms of expected behaviours towards other people - especially in professional spheres. Which can surely only be a good thing - it is in my book.
