Having fallen out with Agen and flopping at Montpellier, he needs to get his next move right. In the current climate he might just need to settle for a one year contract.

I’m not unsympathetic to his reason for leaving, but his decisions really haven’t worked out well thus far. From a Quins point of view, I’d imagine the Jones signing means we’re no longer in a position to make an offer regardless.
Hope things find a way to work out for him, can’t imagine a season at Agen in the Pro D2 is going to be much fun.

Given the way that the Pro D2 promotion works, there's no cast iron guarantee that they'll bounce back either!

If I've understood it correctly, it goes something like this...

1.  The top two teams at the end of the regular season go straight to the semi-final.

2.  Teams 3-6 play quarter finals, the winners of which go to the semis.

3.  The winner of the final is automatically promoted to the Top 14.

4.  The loser of the final has to play a play-off match against the 13th-placed team in the Top 14 to decide if they're going to be promoted.

So whatever way you look at it, there's a lot of opportunity for banana skins even if they "win" the regular season.  Just look at how often Bristol "won" the Championship before losing the play-off final.

I can understand why he felt he needed to leave if Quins were imposing pay cuts, and at the time we were pretty poor too. Couple of seasons earning good money in France, lovely place to live, etc. Instead, he's now in the doldrums, living down there in lockdown is presumably not as much fun as it would have been in normal times, and Quins have gone on to win the Premiership. A gamble that has not really paid off. He might still be perfectly happy, in which case good luck to him. Despite his very obvious qualities, I'm not sure I'd be that thrilled about him re-joining, and he clearly doesn't want to anyway. While I hope he does well for himself, it's quite easy to see his career turning into a case of "what might have been"

I generally agree with this. He seems to have made a rod for his own back with his decisions. If he does come back, we will behind Lynagh, Green, David etc... I get the feeling he wants to be the big dog where he goes and that it would a little to much like a dog with his tail between his legs coming back to Quins.

He is an amazing talent, but perhaps he has made some bad moves. Good luck to him, hope he gets a club and a small part of me, would still like to see him back at the stoop. He promised so much as a winger or game braking 13.

It's ironic he left before Quins started to play a more expansive brand of rugby which would have suited his natural game. His defensive errors would have been less notable amongst a team shipping 30 points every game and I'm sure he'd have finished some of the try opportunities that were created for Lynagh/Murley/Morris. Bad timing for him and others have been the beneficiaries.

They’re pruning their squad.

It's a shame for the lad that he has fallen away from the top echelons like this. An object lesson, perhaps, to young highly promising players. Beware believing your own publicity too much.
