Midi Olympique reporting he’s about to sign for Agen and they nearly signed Brett Heron as well

That's not good if true.

That would be a very odd move...

OLYMPIC MIDI INFORMATION - According to our information, the SUALG is about to enter one of the great hopes of English rugby, Harlequin winger Gabriel Ibitoye. Initially, he was to be followed by his compatriot, opener Brett Herron, who after giving verbal approval to President Fonteneau is expected to remain in England.

SUALG manager Christophe Laussucq was on the verge of a double success in terms of transfer. According to information from Midi Olympique, he is on the point of obtaining the commitment of the winger Gabriel Ibitoye (22 years old, int - 20 years old), notably author of a very big performance this season in Champions Cup against Clermont to Marcel Michelin. The club has been fairly active on the transfer market this season, engaging experienced players (Gérondeau and Buttin), but also young players said to have high potential (Corentin Vernet, 23, or Lyonnais Kévin Yaméogo, 22 , loaned to the right pillar post). This week, Agen communicated on the arrival of the Fijian of origin from La Rochelle, Tevita Railevu (23 years old), considered as Jiff. Laussucq sought to reinforce wing positions with players with a finisher profile.

He was also looking for an opener to enter the rotation in this position, especially with the French Raphaël Lagarde. He was eyeing number ten or center Brett Herron (24, int - 18). The latter, like Ibitoye, had to terminate his contract with their current club, the London Harlequins, faced with financial worries following the Covid 19 crisis. For the winger, President Fonteneau quickly drew and obtained his agreement in writing . He must get his exit certificate from the Harlequins. It’s just a matter of hours, worst of day.

For Herron who also stumbles and who was considered the third choice among Londoners and wanted to see his playing time increase, the problem is different. The player has already committed to a new deal with the Harlequins, with a drop in salary. Since then, he would like to come to Agen, but the financial envelope available to SUALG does not allow him to pay compensation to release him.

Agen therefore went back to looking for an opener after narrowly missing the South African Jantjies.

The bit that stood out to me in bold. Very worrying to see that we're having contracts desperately terminated due to our financials. Wonder who else will jump ship (if true, of course).

He's been pictured on our instagram back in training. Doesn't mean he's staying I know

This is worrying as both have bright futures and would be sorely missed, I’d rather keep Gabs and lose Ashton. It is also alarming the amount of players retiring or leaving without replacement.

He's also on the fringes of the England squad, so seems odd

It's also odd that Herron would have been their next choice after Jantjes. That's quite a drop in standard.

Seeing how he signed a new contract at the start of last year (which would have kicked in at the start of the 19/20 season) there would be at least a season left on that, surely? Agen would have to buy him out of that.

It reads to me that Quins tried to reduce his salary, which would likely have given him the option to leave.

I really hope this is not true. It’s only a week or so that it was reported we are one of the few clubs able to ride this out in a reasonably OK state.

If that’s the case, good luck to him at such an illustrious and successful club.

I think he would be a good fit at Agen.
From the times I have watched them, they play less of a forwards dominated game and do try and throw the ball round a bit.
