The two things are not mutually exclusive (that's a lovely phrase, I wish I knew what it meant).
They could have moved the game to a safe area of the country, it doesn't mean you don't care about other people's lives.

Your post seems to have inadvertently hit the nail on the head. People are suggesting that somehow a game is of paramount importance when it's cancelled due to a natural disaster.
Yes, it's the World Cup. But without wishing to sound altruistic, I'd bet that given the choice, the Canadian team would have opted to help rather than play the game.
