I love the implication that somehow it's surprising he hasn't had a call from Jones when the only reason he isn't in the squad is that he told Jones he doesn't want to play for England anymore.

The thing I wonder is, if Mako were to go down injured in the semi-final, would Eddie call Joe? And would Joe take the call?

I think Mako would have to be injured earlier than that to get the call - whomever is 2nd/3rd string would surely get it? Marler wouldn’t be International-fit not conversant with England game plans/calls.

If Mako and one of Genge/Moon are injured then I could see Marler getting the call (and possibly agreeing) just to have the experience available.

Sorry - I realise you’re just thinking “what if...”

Mako and Moon are fine.  Still not sure about Genge just yet.  He is certainly getting there but not quite.  I would be very surprised if EJ ever called Marler (re coming back in an emergency).  I think he would go with Hepburn.

He has retired. He'll be on a beach somewhere out of shape - and even if he wasn't, he's retired.

Although he's unlikely to be out of shape during the World Cup with the league due to start on Oct 20.

I think there might be a point at which he would get a call but that would only be if our 1st and 2 nd and POSs 3rd choice were going to miss the World Cup he might be asked to reconsider

League starting here as normal - European cups will start later (so I am reliably informed). Started late here back in 2015 as RWC was held in this country so leagues are allowed to be delayed. Marler will be match fit as he’ll have been playing for a few weeks already!

I think they said that it will start in Sept with four rounds of the Premiership Cup with the league starting on Oct 20.

He was asked the same question by Alex Payne and replied 'never say never'.
