And here's the full article from the Club website. I've bolded a piece for those thinking he may be chasing a euro in France:

MARLER RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL RUGBY

HARLEQUINS PROP LOOKING FORWARD TO SPENDING MORE TIME WITH HIS FAMILY AFTER MAKING DIFFICULT DECISION

Joe Marler today announced his retirement from international rugby.

The Harlequins loosehead, who has been capped 59 times by England, told Quins TV he was making the decision to spend more time with his family.

Marler, 28, said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to represent my country and of course this has been a very difficult decision to make, but I have decided to retire from playing international rugby with immediate effect to spend more time with my family.

“It is an incredible commitment to play rugby for England and I strongly believe that if you are unable to give yourself fully to it then it is time to step away. Otherwise it would not be fair on the team, or my family. Being with England you have to spend an incredible amount of time away and I could not do that anymore.

“So now is the time to walk away and get some new blood in the team. And I am looking forward to being able to give my wife and children more of my time.

“I would like to thank everyone at England for the opportunities that I have been given. I will always be grateful for the memories playing for my country has given me.”

Having represented his country at U18 and U20 level, Marler won his first Senior England cap during their 2012 tour to South Africa.

By the time he made his 42nd international appearance against France in March 2016 he had played in a World Cup and missed only four matches since debut on his way to becoming a Grand Slam winner.

He withdrew from England’s summer tour of Australia in 2016 and took a break from the game before leading out England for his 50th cap in their stunning victory over Scotland in March 2017. Three months later he was part of the British & Irish Lions squad for their tour of New Zealand.

England Head Coach Eddie Jones said: “Joe is a great player and team member so I am disappointed and we will miss him. But he has made his decision on personal grounds and we understand his reasoning.

“He’s a good guy – an honest, mature person who understands the demands of the game and the demands of family life. I have got to admire his honesty and the way he has gone about this.”

Marler, who joined the Harlequins Academy in 2008 and has now made over 170 appearances for the Club, scoring nine tries, added that he was now looking forward to being able to concentrate on his club career.

“Harlequins has been my life for the past 10 years and I have enjoyed some wonderful times here and I am looking forward to many more to come,” he said.

“We are hungry for success at The Stoop and I am determined to play a full part in achieving that again for the Club.”

Joe always wears his heart on his sleeve. Got to respect his decision but great to hear him commit to the club and give an honest appraisal on where we are at the moment.

Wow - I did not see that coming! But fair play to Joe, I guess Japan would have been a long time away, he's got a young family, he's not getting any younger. It's his decision, just glad he's going to be continuing at the club.

I really hope this is just a lifestyle decision.

Howdo interloper here, from the other place.

Gotta say this is big surprise. Always rated Joe as an England player and I think he will be missed IMO by Eddie Jones (and the rest of the team).

Respect his decision to spend more time with his family. This Waspie wishes him well for the future, with the obvious exception for when you guys are playing us :P

I absolutely love Joe! The first time I took my son to the Stoop, Joe was really kind and took time to have a photo and a chat (as he was doing with all the kids). He immediately became our favourite. A true gent and I bet he is a right laugh too! Good luck to you Joe!

Perhaps without the added pressure of England he can relax and really show his excellence for us.

Getting excited for Saturday now!
Come on you Quins!

Wish Joe well, love that he just wants to spend more time with the wife and kids and really hope he will be staying at Quins for many years to come.

We wrote to him a few years ago and he sent the loveliest card to my son, fair play to the man and respect.............

Will be missed on the international stage. A great character and a true jester. Thanks Joe. Hope he stays at Quins and helps us win something.

That is a shame; I enjoyed watching him run out in England colours. But it's a very mature decision and I applaud him for making it despite how difficult it must have been.

Shame we won't see him pull on an England shirt again but if he felt he he couldn't give it 100% then it's is clearly the correct decision for him.
Look forward to cheering him on at the stoop for (hopefully) many years to come.

Wish him and his family well. Very nice down to earth humble bloke. No ego in the slightest. Fully behind him.

The article on BBC News quotes him saying "Harlequins has been my life for the past 10 years and I have enjoyed some wonderful times here and I am looking forward to many more to come,".

So hopefully that puts the moving club rumour to bed for a while.

Thoughts are with you Joe and family.
