Ok so millennials are all the same apart from one then. So are they all the same or not? Your son suggests not.

And on the second sentence, your conclusion from the article by a professional rugby player who said he considered suicide because of a lack of focus on mental wellbeing among all the **** rugby training is that he’s saying people shouldn’t be such snowflakes.

Honestly I’m done with this board for good. There’s a reason rugby isn’t growing and it’s the kind of dull witted, average-achieving slack jawed Barbour wearing red faced old bigots that spout their crap on here.

Look outside the Daily Mail and your comfortable provincial dull little lives and try to realise that it isn’t the 1950s, when none of you was alive anyway.

Enjoy the rugby - I hope never to sit near anyone as idiotic and backward as any of you. Keep masturbating over Katie Hopkins. The good news is our generation will be dead in 20 years and the world can move on.

Somebody's tired!

Well that escalated quickly.

Without wishing to get involved in the debate, it doesn seem odd that you can't generalise about millenials, which I agree with because technically I am one and I certain don't feel I should be lumped together with those 10 years younger than me, but you can generalise rugby fans as a load of dull witted, average-achieving slack jawed Barbour wearing red faced old bigots

Very true! I don't think all people of any sector are the same. We're all different. I do think that millenials are less well prepared for life, in terms of schooling etc. But not all of them.
I've noticed that in my generation, life skills seemed to be focused on the individual toughening up and dealing with things, whereas nowadays there's a focus on protecting people from things they can't deal with. Personally I think the shift is way too far, but that's just my opinion. Sorry, no stats or empirical evidence to support it.

I think that is the trend for sure. I find it interesting what is causing this shift. The number of mental health complaints and issues individuals have over stress in my workplace is increasing and I’m trying to put my finger on the cause. Probably a few things. Prominence of social media and 24/7 communication and the need to be “on” all the time? A warped sense of values based on celebrity culture? A weird aspirational culture where people easily feel like failures even though they aren’t?

Or is it just they everyone has learnt to be more open and have more channels to be open and express themselves than they did a a generation ago? Did the older generation have the same issues but just never spoke of them?

I dunno - it’s complex - I’m on a train home from work and most in the carriage are glued to their phones like zombies (me too) and it makes me sad for what this has done for us. The human touch is diminishing...

Much of that is covered in the video. I think.

Are people just more able to open up now? Yes.  Are they much less able to cope with things now? Definitely. This is the era of the "safe space".

I think with social media theses days being something that most people are constantly on looking at what everyone else is doing and worrying that they aren’t doing as much or have so much and stressing about what other people think of them that there is little wonder that some types are having mental issues. It’s keeping up with the Joneses ramped up by 100000.

As someone who owns his own company and has employed millennials I agree totally with Sinck.  I have out of 12 I have employed, had 1 who is a good employee and just gets on with it without needing to be constantly told he is doing a good job and without thinking he has abilities and experience far outside the reality.

I have had millennialls cry because they have had a minor disagreement at work, be off sick with stress.

I have had millennials who think that it is perfectly acceptable to be texting on their phone all day long.

I run a relaxed ship - when people have a doctor or dentist appointment and need to be at home to meet a tradesman I am fine with that.  With the millennials however they do not ever see that it may work the other way around .  My older members of staff will sometimes work late or come in early.  The 1 millennial of whom I have spoken is the only one who understands the concept of give and take.

Every person I know who runs their own business says exactly the same thing - including my own son who is a millennial but has a good work ethic and has been brought up to understand that he is not special to anyone but his family and those who love him.

The last 2 people I have employed have been in their 50's and I feel m ore comfortable with people I feel have a lesser sense of entitlement and a far higher work ethic and are appreciative of working in a company which has a flexible approach.

You are correct about life throwing them into situations that they cannot cope with.  My experience is that they are cossetted by parents and teachers and then go to college usually to do a worthless degree in sociology or the like.  They have not ever been taught that life is fiercely competitive and that no everyone is a gentle snowflake.

My experience (with millennials or any other demographic you wish to give pigeon-hole) is different - perhaps the recruitment process isn't picking those who you can work with?

I’m a ‘millennial’. I run my own company and spend most of my time with clients and colleagues from the financial services and engineering world. I’ve found groups of people who are, great, diligent, lazy, arrogant, over sensitive etc among all age groups. I’ve come across some pain in the bum millennials who are me me me, I want this now and so on but I’d say that’s more a trait of the post 1990 millennial set. On the other hand I’ve come across some over 50s who phone it in daily and are some of the laziest, slimiest people I’ve met in any walk of life.

I’d say the reasons stress is on the increase is that people are no longer as afraid to report it, partially but the always on technology driven world we live in stops people from switching off. E mails at all hours, social media, WhatsApp. All intrudes into time you used to be switching off from things.
