Not sure is a great loss. In 15’s has never been a regular starter at club level. Yes he offloads lots, but if you watch carefully they are not space creating or try creating offloads. Is very much a luxury player not a dependable starter. Think he would be great in a pack of 6 or 7 monsters, but we don’t have that. Not sure he can have him and Dombrandt in same back row!

The club can have all the money in the world, there is still a salary cap to stick to. You mention Smith in a few years, it could well come down to a choice in a few years between him and one or two others (to keep within the cap).  How would you have felt if Marchant left instead of Semi, or maybe Dombrandt??

Sorry, but maybe I explained myself wrong.
I knows very well that there are limits on money, but having Evans or Lawday play, and leaving Kunatani on the bench, who would play in any team from the beginning, seemed wrong to me.
Since Robshaw goes away, I would have increased the money for Kunatani and i would have kept him.
I am very happy that Dombrandt and Marchant have renewed the contract, but in the last row of the fray, it seems to me that we are a bit weak.
Also because if Marchant Dombrant and Smith go to play in the national team, for 3 abundant months they are not going to play for the team because of 6 nations and autumn test matches.
I certainly don't want to scam like the Saracens, but I would have liked to see Dombrandt Crisholm and Semi play together.
And I think they would have found the money to keep Semi.
Then since he has practically never played, he wants to leave and I think he will  play very well in a great team.
How come Bristol keeps some players with a high salary?
(Charles Piutau + Steve Luatua + Sinckler + Radradra + Hughes) = 3.000.000 £  for only 5 players

The only reason I can think Semi was not a starter, is that PG thought he was a better option from the bench.....He made some good breaks and offloads after coming on at 60 mins.  Would the spaces etc be there for him to do that after 5 mins??  When we talk about players going, and if it is a good move or not, its worth seeing who the replacement is.
Im a big fan of Evans and I can see him becoming a very important player for us.  In terms of backrow play, I think he is a better option than Semi, more disruptive at the breakdown and more likely to win turnover ball, thats my main want from a seven.
As for Bristol, dont forget Radara and Piatua will be exempt from the cap.  Its safe to say that we did not get value for money from one of our Marquee players (Sailli).  Lets hope we have better luck with the next one.

I think that Evans is a good player, but it's one of many that you can find in many teams.
The only thing to its advantage is the age.
But for me he is not comparable to Kunatani.
Radradra and Piatau will be exempt from the limit, but the team knows how to spend money in the proper way.
Next year Bristol will be one of the strongest team in the premiership.

Because a) marquee payments help, and b) they have a squad full of cheap players.

I'm not sure about Kunatani, I agree he should've been given more opportunities but I'm not sure I ever liked his defensive work or his ruck work. As an x-factor player I think we should have persevered with him, though.

Semi was a great impact player. I’d have liked to have kept him and I don’t think we saw enough of him in a Quins shirt, but some of the comments I’m reading here are over-rating him quite a bit while under-rating Evans.

We’re losing Robshaw’s work-rate, defence, organisation and breakdown ability. Evans isn’t a highlight reel player, but he’s a lot closer to replacing what we’ll miss than Semi would have been.

We still have Dombrandt and Esterhuizen coming in if you want to see offloads etc.

2019/20 GP

Stats per ESPN Scrum

Mins 123
Tries/assists 0
Breaks 0
Defenders beaten 1
Metres 26 from 23 carries
Tackles 25 (16 per game)
Missed 5 (3 per game)
Offloads 7
Passes 9
Turned over twice

Meh. He made very little ground when he carried and barely beat anyone. Tackled lots but at the end of games, only once played more than a quarter of a match. Made some sexy offloads.

I made a quick search.
It was simply by chance that he was the best off-load in 2 rounds of  the Gallagher premiership.
In 123 minutes.......

No-one’s saying he wasn’t good at offloading. As I’ve said all along, I’d prefer to have kept him, I just feel like the hyperbole around him is not fully justified.

These statistics are not of the last season, but this season.
Well, how many n.7 do you know who have done 7 offloads in 123 minutes?
So according to your statistics:
He  offloads every 17 minutes, which in an 80-minute game would be almost 5.
So if he played 5 full games he would do 25 offloads, right ??
Or the math is an opinion?
If you want i'll wait for your statistics or if you want to share your opinion you give me names, thanks

To end the discussion, if we let go of Kunatani to take Du Toit,
I wouldn't have said anything and i would have been very happy.
But is  that Evans which is a No. 6 and not a flanker does not seem to replace him, which doesn't mean he's a bad player.

Blank check??? you are very funny...... :D

Offloads are like drop goals and turnovers - they get the plaudits from the pundits but they're relatively rare in the actual gameplay. What DoRs tend to value is the stuff that doesn't make the highlight reels - slowing the ball down, clearing out the rucks, oiling the wheels of the game.

I'm sorry to see Semi go, and I would have like to see more of him, but Gussy clearly wants a different type of player in the back row. If I had to guess, I'd say he's betting on Dombrandt (and perhaps Clifford, if he's back to being fully fit) being able to step up into the role of all action, offloading backrower and is focusing his resources on the guys who do the hard work that gives them space to shine.

Exactly and @maybetomorrow, do you know who Evans is? He’s not a 6, I’ll tell you that much.

I think maybetomorrow is French - would explain the confusion there.

But yes, offloads aren't everything. We shouldn't ignore his ability to break a defensive line open though, it's a real asset.
