Lions 3rd Test Team
« on: Tuesday 03-Aug-2021, 12:16* »
British and Irish Lions: Williams; Adams, Henshaw, Aki, Van der Merwe; Biggar, Price; Jones, Owens, Furlong, Itoje, A Wyn Jones (c), Lawes, Curry, Conan

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Vunipola, Sinckler, Beard, Simmonds, Murray, Russell, Daly

So that's uninspiring. VDM still won't be able to catch by Saturday. Surely you start Russell, won't be as effective coming on and having to get up to speed.

And don't get me started on Aki

Meh. Aki is lucky to be on tour. VDM should be nowhere near. Russell will only come on if the game is already lost. Same tactics presumably.

Owens was awful off the bench

Gatland's betting on Sinckler not being punished by the panel later on today, I see...

Seems odd to drop Watson and keep VDM. Has Russell played on tour?

Pleased for Williams and Adams, should hopefully bring a more attacking dimension that is greatly needed. Likewise with Price.

Lions scrum is going to be on wheels going backwards I know that much, not been overly impressed for what I've seen in the tests so far.

Aki is an interesting call....

On the plus side, Price's inclusion should provide some tempo and quicker ball. A number of SA counter rucks last week from Murray taking an age to get to the breakdown.

Should be Russell starting with Smith off the bench, but unrealistic to expect a real change of style at this point.

Not sure how Conan is still in the side considering the other options available. Two   okay performances but hasn't done enough for me.

Would've liked to have seen another genuine turnover threat included, either Bernie or Watson (or both).

Sinckler's been cleared to play after the disciplinary committee "could not be satisfied that the player committed an act of foul play".

South Africa will be without key players Pieter-Steph du Toit and Faf de Klerk on Saturday.
Du Toit injuring his shoulder and De Klerk suffering from a muscle strain.

Damaged shoulder from being hit by Murray's head perhaps!

Gatland may have done great things with the lions in the past but WTF is he doing in this test series? I can't see what his tactics or gameplan are🙄

What do think think is going to happen on Saturday? Not, what do we want to happen, but what do we think is actually going to happen?

I think the Lions will lose.

Hope we lose, No place in Rugby for Lions anymore, lets stick to the individual nations, all this Lions business hampers all 4 countries in their own individual aims, which should be the World Cup.

Strange sentiment. The result will have no bearing on the continuing existence of the Lions.

Sorry Chris but I disagree. If nothing else, the Lions gives the home nation a below-the-radar test series two years out from a World Cup.

In 2017, that gave Jones a chance to play the Kamikaze Kids in a meaningful test series whilst the spotlight was elsewhere.

Likewise, it was a very callow England said that played against USA and Canada.

With no Lions tour, I fear that any England tour would have been under too much scrutiny to try a raft of new players.
