I wouldn’t want him associated with us. I don’t think Harlequins would want any controversy neither. As someone mentioned above, the club has some supporters who are LGBTQ and players like Marler and Care notably support the community. Personally I am straight, and I have deep respect for anyone and everyone as long as they do not intend harm or bad wishes on anyone else. I work with and know many people with different diversity’s and that includes people from the LGBTQ community. I understand and respect individual views but he should keep those views to himself as what he has said clearly isn’t nice for the LGBTQ to see or hear, and what he said clearly isn’t welcomed in our notably inclusive game or the community.

If the position is that he was sacked for breaching his contract, that's not a reason for every club to reject him. It would be simple to get him to sign a similar contract and hope that he abides by it. If the position is not to sign him because his views are unacceptable, that's a slippery slope to go down. Where is the line drawn? Not signing a player who votes for the BNP? Not signing a player who publicly supports Donald Trump? Not signing a player who publicly advocates Brexit?

I can understand people who might have disapproved of Joe's tweets to wind up Folau. Didn't bother me, but what if someone did claim they were offended?

Most reputable companies won't employ someone who was sacked by his last company.

The reason he wouldn’t be signed is because his presence would cause such a stink that it’d most likely detract from any good he did as a rugby player. In the same way a club would pass over someone who had other disruptive traits.

Sacked people find new employment. It's not just disreputable companies that employ them. Some believe in giving another chance.

As for disruptive traits. quite often these can be managed.

The club would know what needs to be done to manage/defuse the situation. If they're managing the "silly boy" stuff, then I'd be happy to have him. With the proviso that if there is a repeat issue, then they come down on him like a ton of bricks.

The line to be drawn Quinky is keeping those harmful views to himself. Stating what he stated. Fair enough he’s allowed his views and if that’s how it feels then great for him, but to amplify it on Instagram where he has young kids looking up to him, where it’s clearly not the kindest thing to say and where he has already been warned by ARU not to say what he did publicly as he did so before. The fact he did so exactly a year after the last time he did something like it and was warned by the ARU (who in the long and short of their warning said to him “think what you think but don’t say it publicly”) was taking the micky out of the ARU and he clearly hadn’t learnt from past mistakes. Again people can have their own views that’s fine but if you amplify them in the public eye where it can harm a group of people or encourage others again for example young fans to take up the same views is just wrong. With great respect Quinky, that’s the line. Think what you think, but think before you say, as saying what you think isn’t always the right thing to do; especially when it’s spreading hate and causing upset. Capeche.

He also showed no care in that the ARU warned him not to do it once so he did it twice. When clubs look at him and see that, that shows the player clearly has a lack of respect to club/RU wishes, and no club wants someone who ignores their clubs values/ignores warnings issued. Plus it was made public that he started to divide the Australian national teams dressing room. No club wants that either

Fair points. I wasn't aware of the dressing room stuff, so that adds to the balance against him.

I can't help seeing parallels with the school protests in Birmingham at the moment. The protest leader is weighing heavily on the fact that the proposed lessons are "against the religious teachings" of some kids' families. Another protest leader has gone on record as saying that he thinks homosexuality is wrong/sinful. Some of the banners shown in the media are pretty blatant too. I wish someone would have the spheres to come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Surely these are political views, which as you say, should be respected and should not prohibit employment, but the LBGTQ question is more ethical than political, no?

For me it’s simpler than that. One chooses how to vote but you can no more change your sexual orientation than you can the colour of your skin

You'd think so, but I fear not. Ultimately Folau's views are what have done for him. He says these are due to his religion, which is a choice.
